I have only heard of the DAR in Gilmore Girls. I thought that is was a written-for-script group. Please enlighten me. What does it take to join the DAR?

Hi Jeanette. To join the DAR you must have a Revolutionary War "Patriot" who is a direct ancestor of yours. Mother, father, grandfather and so on, not aunt or uncle. There are many who supported the Revolutionary War without actually fighting and that's why the word "Patriot" is used.

FYI - the DAR chapter I joined is celebrating it's 150 year anniversary this year. I'm not sure when the very first chapter started.

I love doing my family genealogy. We could join the DAR if we want to apply. We also can apply for the Mayflower descendants. My husband's line goes to Elder William Brewster.
