We had some crazy clouds this morning laying over the mountains like a blanket! I couldn't help but share this neat picture. This storm is bringing in some Fall weather for us, but we will be warming back up by next week.

WOW Krista that almost looks like heavy snow. LOL, To someone who doesn’t know what your Mtn range normally looks like.

Gee, Krista! Those do look crazy! I found out that this weather phenomenon is called orographic lifting. Warm, moist air lifting over your mountains causes the clouds to form. I thought that it was pretty neat, so I looked it up. Science geek here! Thank you for sharing the beautiful photo! I learned something today. . .so cool!

Wanda, I agree. It does look like snow. But I am so not ready for snow, so I will take the clouds instead.

Nancy, thank you for the science lesson! I didn't know it had a fancy name. We tend to get clouds like this all the time with storms. Now I will know what to call them!

Thanks Krista! I am a retired teacher. My favorite classes to teach were Science and English. I love to find out about new science terms, so I look up lots of things that I don't know about and pass them on!
Your clouds really caught my interest. They are an amazing phenomenon!

Krista, great picture. If the clouds were in Texas and darker but still sagging, I would think tornados were those clouds just waiting to dip down to the ground.

Sara, I can see what you mean. Thank goodness they weren't tornado clouds though. I am afraid of them.
