I think the intense heat this Summer caused this. I watered every other day in July and August, hydrangeas have to have a lot of water! Now they have new blooms and ones ready to open! Usually this time of year the blooms have faded and are great for fall arrangements. In all my 40 years of growing them, I've never seen this happen! Connie |

Unfortunately my Snowball hydrangeas up here in N MI all look like a bunch of scraggly-haired teenagers in need of a good shampooing!
When asked “How are you?”, I reply, “Better than good!” |

Those are beautiful Connie. It is such a strange year. We have been super warm for October too. Yesterday was our first day of cold weather, but by next week we should be warming up again. This is not normal for October. It's a very off year.

We all agree it's been a very off growing season! We had had blistering heat before, not like this year!
Sharon, that's a funny, great way to describe them. I've had my oak leaf hydrangea look like that too. Connie you

What a beautiful shade of blue! Enjoy them in and maybe cut a bouquet for your table?

Well, those Hydrangeas are sure gorgeous even if they are out of synch of their usual blooming pattern!

Ours were in bloom when we planted them last year but they did not bloom this year. Very disappointed. Even the one that was here when we moved, a well established one didn't bloom. I think we didn't get enough rain.

Denise, I've have years too with no blooms, hydrangeas need a lot of water. Pruning too early in the Spring can cause removal of live branches along with an the dead ones. There is a great book that was written about hydrangeas many years ago. I need to look it up again. I leaned a lot from it. Connie |
