Hello! It has been ages since I last posted on the forum. I have missed you all so much. I hope you are doing well!

Life has been a roller coaster for the past few years but I am finally settling back into a stable routine. I am really looking forward to getting back to my Farmgirl life.

I spent the last five years battling with family over my Dad’s estate. Then two years ago the barn where I kept my landscape business was destroyed by a car accident and I had to tear it down. My sibling took the insurance settlement to “rebuild”…..and then suddenly decided to sell the property and cancelled my rental agreement instead. So last September I found myself having to make plans move my business assets on very short notice.

Fortunately the universe had my back and I found a perfect 5 acre parcel of rural vacant land about 20 miles away from home. I got a great deal on this lot and it checked off all the boxes I had been searching for! It’s on the former site of a historic lumber mill that operated from 1895-1938 so it already had a large level area and a driveway that just needed a little finish grading and a fresh layer of gravel to make it move-in ready. The ruins of the old power plant building still stand on the property. I’m told by the neighbors that there are more relics lurking in the brush as well. There is some nice pristine conifer forest at one end but the majority of the lot is open space. The property is currently overtaken by rampant blackberries so this summer my focus will be to get them mowed down. Eventually I hope to build a shop or barn building and a tiny house. But for now I have everything housed in shipping containers.

After this crazy journey I am truly grateful to have a place of my own where I can finally do what I please without any family interference. It feels so wonderful to be able to focus on my career and enjoy it once again.

And of course it will be nice to have more time and energy for fun things like gardening, crafts and staying in touch with my Farmgirl friends!

How has life been treating you?

Cheers! ~ Marilyn

So good too see you again Marilyn! So sorry to hear of all the trials you've been through!!! Seems like a lot of farmgirls, friends and family are experiencing some sort of trial, saddens my heart but does make us stronger, wiser and kinder I believe.
Happy you found a place, sounds perfect and happy you're back!!

Hey Marilyn,
So good to see you back and hear about your ups and downs and that things are moving forward.

I've been gone for a while from the Connection as well, due to serious health issues. I'm glad to be back here, at least on a limited basis. My struggles are only getting worse but I'm trying to work towards the positive things that there are.
Farmgirls are the best and this is a good place to be.

Farmgirl Hugs!

Welcome back! I plant blackberries in my yard and everyone in the PNW mows them down! I saw a sign in Portland offering Blackberry removal!

I’m so glad you got a great property! It sounds like you will have fun exploring and learning all the secrets!

Hi Alee! Haha…..the blackberries you plant in your garden are NOT the invasive non-native kind that aggressively take over acres of land here in the PNW. These plants are monsters of a whole different nature and removal is indeed a business enterprise. I cut through some last weekend that had stems well over one inch in diameter near the base of the crown. I had to cut them off with loppers because my string trimmer blade couldn’t go through them, Trust me you don’t want this kind of blackberries!

Cheers! ~ Marilyn
