I really like the idea of a farm fresh stand! If you haven't read the new Rural Farmgirl blog it's right here. https://www.farmgirlbloggers.com/22536#comment-35573

But as I was reading it I couldn't help but think of so many Farmgirls here who could benefit from a stand.

Like Grace! Do you know how many tomatoes you always have at the end of the year? You say you are swimming in them. You could always sell some of your tomatoes at a farm stand.

And Michele and Shennandoah, you both just got bees. You guys could sell some honey!

I know many Farmgirls here have chickens and probably have some extra eggs to sell.

One day in the future I would love to have my own stand at the end of the driveway. Mine would be extra veggies. My oldest has already mentioned he would love to sell eggs to earn his money. (He has a very expensive Titanic Lego set he's saving money for) We need the chickens first though lol! Maybe next year.

Something to consider since farm fresh produce is very popular.

Her blog is so fun and I enjoy reading what she is up to. We sold lots of eggs when we had our chickens. Will have them again one day!

That is awesome Denise! So you know all about it. Raising chickens does sound fun for the kids. I look forward to that soon.

Krista,
Growing up my parents raised chickens to sell for meat and eggs. I can remember my mom candling the eggs and grading them. I can't imagine how many chick's were incubated on our farm. So, so many. We had hundreds of chickens and I know we butchered once a year. My aunts would all come to help and all of them took home meat to freeze for winter. We sold a lot of eggs. We had a huge garden and what mom didn't preserve, which wasn't much, we usually shared with neighbors. We used to pick berries and sell some fresh as well as jams and jellies mom would make. I loved growing up with parents who knew how to make things work for the extra money they needed. I so enjoyed her blog post. It brought back wonderful memories!

If I lived on a farm where I could grow a lot of things, I would be interested in doing a farm stand myself. What I like about the idea is that there are no particular ways it would have to be done. I saw a show once about a woman in New England who did a small pie stand at the end of her driveway in this tiny shed. The pies were covered and set out and a money jar stayed on the table. People knew about this place and stopped by for a homemade pie daily. The owner was able to make money above her expenses which helped her pay her own bills.

Denise, your childhood sounds amazing! That is my goal for the future. I really hope I can do the same sorts of things and show my children how much we can do ourselves and rely on our own land.

Winnie, that is really neat! I agree. People could even sell non-edible things alongside their farm stand. Such as their handmade items like candles, soaps, dish rags, etc.
