Oh my stars! Hubby and I had to run some errands over in Spokane yesterday… And I managed to hit two thrift stores.
Among a few other goodies, look what I scored! Each of these quilts cost anywhere from $2.99 to $3.99 and several of them were half price, “color ticket of the day”…
I also got two cute aprons. One is a homemade apron. That’s the red one, and the chili peppers one is a manufactured apron, but I’m gonna have fun embroidering something on the front of it.
What a fun day!
And,, as always… Sissy had to give her ‘4-paws of approval’!!

BTW,,, The flag one was done in strips… and some of the strips were cut more narrow, while others were cut wider to create the illusion of the movement of the flag. Really awesome job.

My goodness what a great score! Your thrift shops are sure a lot better than the ones around here.

You are very fortunate. The only things at the thrift stores around here for under $3.99 are books.

It’s funny, my mother volunteered at her churches thrift store, and I could always find cashmere sweaters for just a couple of dollars and doilies and hankies and vintage gloves for anywhere from $.50 to a dollar. That was in Palm Springs… Palm Springs was my best place to find cashmere sweaters. Up here Kashmir sweaters go for a bloody Fortune that being said I can find tourist shirts – Hawaiian themed shirts for just a couple of dollars Down in Palm Springs they went for outrageous amounts. I think it’s all about location. That being said with mid-century modern and vintage being very popular, a resurgence, the prices are definitely going up and the goodies are getting harder to find. I got lucky with these quilts because up here it’s a very big quilting community so I guess the values are a little less because they’re such an abundance. unlike if I were in Southern California quilt would probably go for two or three times or more the amount. Again, it’s all about location.

Great score Grace! I can’t even find 100% wool sweaters anymore.

Ever since the needle felting craze began wool sweaters are extinct in thrift shops.

I haven't been able to find a 100% wool, cashmere, angora, or alpaca sweater in years. They are needed for felting and if you find them they are expensive. That said, my newer washing machine only does cold rinse, so I can't use it to felt sweaters.

You find the best stuff in your area, Grace. Are they all found at the same thrift store? Where does all the stuff come from?

I really like that flag! I might have to try something like that to make a mini garden flag. My summer ones are too bad to hang up again this year. In the first picture it looks like Sissy wants to know what treat you're going to make her while wearing your new apron :)

Grace, you walked away with an amazing stash! Lovely finds. I also really like the flag one. Have you ever considered making Sissy her own apron? LOL she would look so dang cute!

We made that flag tablerunner in my guild last year. It isn't hard and makes a great centerpiece. It is hard to believe someone would get rid of it. Some people just don't value handmade items like we farmgirls do. When we find quilts or tablerunners like that in thrift shops my husband and I think that the quilter's relatives sure don't value the time and talent it took to make it.

I've gotten cross-stitched framed sayings and pictures for way under $5, and I know how much time it takes to complete projects like that.

Linda, 'sew' true!
It saddens me when I sew lovely, crochet, cross stitch, quilts and aprons that were lovingly made and gifted only to end up in a box destined for the Thrift stores..

But their loss, my gain!..
