The weather here has been so crazy, snowy, one day, hot, the next hail, and then rain, The weather here has been so crazy, snowy, one day, hot the next hail, and then rain, my poor, praying mantis don’t know what to do! A couple of my praying mantis have hatched, but I have not found them anywhere in my garden. The other praying mantis cocoons are still intact. But on the plus side, I do have some honeybees out and about in the dandelions out in the back pasture. That makes me happy.

Grace, I have never seen a praying mantis cocoon. That is very interesting and unique. I am happy that the bees are showing up and maybe the weather will calm down as May continues onward to the summer season.
We are having lots of Monarch butterflies again this year and they are laying eggs on the Mild Weed and the caterpillars are growing fat and fat . So far, they have eaten down 2 barrels of Milk weed and we have 3 more growing. We can hardly keep up!!!

RTG,, I so miss the Monarchs that made their main voyage-stop over in Santa Barbara.. They were so awesome to see..(back when I lived in Ventura CO, CA) We are still a month out before any butterflies cone to visit our gardens here... Soon as my flowering Quince blooms/blossoms, we will have tons of all kinds of bees and 'flutterbys'...
I can hardly wait for the praying mantis to hatch,,,

Grace, every year I find a couple praying mantis eggs, but this year I haven't found any. Hopefully some will venture back into our yard.

I keep checking on them.. it rained like the dickens yesterday but by the end of this week, we are supposed to get warm sunny weather. So if we get a full week of sun and warmth, they’ll be hatching unfortunately I’m pretty much just with dandelions some small grape hyacinths and tulips that are blooming right now hopefully that’ll be enough for my praying mantis to snack the ants or gnats until the other plants and insects show up.

Praying mantis are so neat! We have located a couple of them in our garden and are waiting, too! Can't wait for them!
