UPDATE: 11/21-CT scan was done after a period of down time about 5 weeks and the results came in yesterday. The mass has not changed at all even after 9 sessions of chemo and 15 radiation therapy sessions. We are dumbfounded, but GREATLY relieved to know the cancer has NOT spread to other organs. We meet with the cancer dr.'s next week for labs and consultation as to what happens next. Bruce is feeling fine-maintaining his weight and that awful fatigue he was experiencing has almost disappeared. He also is doing some work at the office with very limited hours. I am so glad about that and thankful the cancer has not spread.
Wishing all my farmgirls a very HAPPY THANKSGIVING and I will update again.
Love, Mel
UPDATE: Cancer Stage III - We were informed this morning after the fourth biopsy results were reviewed. We will head to the oncologist locally, tomorrow morning to develop a chemo regimen to begin immediately. I am stunned. Since February we have been trying to get a diagnosis once in Green Bay with an 11 day stay in hospital with severe pancreatitis, twice out at Mayo and then to Milwaukee at Froedtert-who ultimately was able to get a biopsy that actually contained cancer cells. So now the journey really begins. I am so scared. Please continue your prayers sweet farmgirls-we will need every voice. I will keep you updated. Thank you so much, Love Mel
we are going thru a difficult time these last few weeks with scans and a multitude of tests and tomorrow another scan to determine what a 2.5 cm mass is doing inside my husbands pancreas. He is asymptomatic other than some gi issues and has lost 40 pounds in six months. All other gi scans came back clear until they found this on a CT scan last week.
I am scared to death--having a terrible time trying to gain control of my crying so that I can be a supportive wife. I consider myself a strong no nonsense kind of woman, but I am floundering.
Anyone out there experiencing a similar situation? Any advice would be grateful.

I am so sorry Melody, my suggestion is to cry in private and not in front of hubby and you will be the strong woman you know you are. I know it is hard though as I have just been through a illness with my son this past week. I cried and cried and still cry but, when I am with my Son I put on my big girl pants and am strong for him. I will keep you in my thoughts, heart and prayers Melody, you got this!

Our GI doctor sent slides to mayo as the pathology report came back inconclusive-We spoke with Mayo this morning and they have all of our scans labs and clinic/er reports and will begin at the beginning to determine whether or not dr's assessment 99.9 percent malignant or if the cells in the biopsy are 'abnormal.' Talk about a twist and turn. I want to thank you so much ladies- we were told today that he will be in hospital for another six days and they placed an ng feeding tube late this afternoon-he hasn't eaten since last wednesday so now he can get the nutrition he badly needs and in turn help restore his 'flaming pancreas' and this is just the beginning. this waiting is awful. but, i can see improvement and the inflammation is definitely receding it's just a super slow process. I have never been a patient woman, but I am learning to take one day at a time.
thank you again for all of your kind words and prayers-they truly are an inspiration to me and my family.
love, mel |

Mayo's second opinion is inconclusive--- two weeks from now he will have to have another biopsy from his GI doctor here - He jus wants to make sure that there is nothing lurking inside the pancreas. 9 days in-had a chance to get back home to get the house ready for my husband-he still has a feeding tube and we are learning what we need to do to care for him at home-it'll be in at least another week-we see the gi doctor in about 45 minutes south of us on Wednesday and hopefully he will be placed on liquid diet-which scares me-that's when all the trouble started very painful and being sick to his stomach. We are all running on good wishes and prayers. I have a whole new respect for others who go thru this and a lot worse. I had no idea. It's really very humbling. Thank you ladies for all the encouragement-you have no idea how much it lifts our spirits and gets us thru each day.

i'm writing this at an airbnb in milwaukee-another biopsy ERCP is scheduled for tomorrow before noon at froedtert cancer clinic-no more Mayo for us-they just didn't know what was up and time is of the essence so we contacted our 1st gi specialist who knows a very renowned pancreas man at froedert and got us in within days of contacting his old new england friend-for that we are eternally grateful-this will be his 4th biopsy-if this is found 'inconclusive' then the dr. will open him up for a birds eye view of his pancreas. we are collectively holding our breath-but i have a feeling they will not find anything and will have to schedule an open laparotomy which frankly, scares me more than any of his previous ERCP's. think positive thoughts ladies and continue with prayers-we surely do appreciate it. i will keep you updated. love, Mel |

Melody, I sent you an email response yesterday, but reading your post from yesterday gives me an update too. I'm sorry the experience at Mayo was so disappointing, especially when you hear so much about the Mayo Clinic. I will be praying for you and Bruce in the new situation . . . for answers, for healing, for hope! Love, Hugs and Prayers! CJ
