Happy Mardi Gras! We celebrate everything.
Red beans and rice tonight. I used to make crepes suzette for dessert.

Judith, I don't celebrate Mardi Gras, but I do like red beans and rice with a little jalapeno pepper or Tabasco Sauce.

DH always adds peppers and tabasco to his. We are a very mismatched couple -- he likes everything hot hot hot and I'm allergic to the peppers.

I always used to celebrate Mardi Gras with a King's Cake for breakfast. My girls loved it and it really is a sweet cinnamon bread and perfect with coffee, tea, or hot chocolate. Now that everyone is grown and gone, I no longer make it because it is just too much for 2 people and we don't need all the extra sweet calories.

The Kings cake sounds wonderful; did you put a charm in it? We used to something similar for 12th nite.
With all the kids gone, scattered and with families of their own it seems we have lost holidays and I really miss them. DH is totally not into holidays except the opening day of deer season. So I try to make up for it in little ways like gumbo or red beans and rice for Mardi Gras, Chinese food for Chinese New year. I made my Vietnamese pedicure gal a red tea wallet.

Judith, we did put a little plastic baby in our cake , which I think is the tradition. I always made the KIng's Cake for January 6th and Mardis Gras each year. It was a huge family favorite but now the kids are off living in other places, we have no grandchildren, so I don't make it anymore for just 2 people.
