It started raining here Christmas night and continued through Tuesday. This is what my yard looks like.
I have my very own ice skating rink. Fortunately I just bought some ice traxs at Costco and hubby has ice fishing spikes so we can walk across the yard. Our electricity was off for 48 hours and in many places still is. Thousands of poles down and hundreds of people were out of power and many still are, some could be for a week or more.

Are you prepared for something like this?

We have a huge generator that powers the entire farm so we weren’t affected by this and were able to help many who weren’t prepared.

A little rain can straighten a flower stem. A little love can change a life.

Oh no that’s terrible Julie, I did not realize it was so bad there. So thank you have a generator. I will keep your family and town in my prayers.

So happy to hear you were prepared, Julie. The first time we had a major ice storm like that we were not prepared. It took all day to milk the cows by hand and my hands didn't appreciate it either! Luckily we had a small generator for household stuff that also ran the well so the cows had water. Needless to say we now have a generator that can handle the farm.

Julie, so sorry to hear of the power outages but glad you have your large generator that keeps you and your farm lit and warm. Being able to help others in a crisis is a very good thing.

You asked what we would do? Over the last couple of years I have installed two gas heaters and a gas range. Since I have had the gas heaters I have not used my electric centurial heat.

Wow Julie that's crazy. I'm so happy to hear you are doing well. My husband travels to North Dakota frequently and he has been stuck there because of those kind of storms. Its always a great idea to be prepared.

Julie, I've been watching the news and weather cams in NE, where my sister abd niece live, and in Winner, SD where my MIL lives. She couldn't even get out for Christmas and is still 'locked'in! Awful and I feel badly we are not there for her.
My prayers are with y'all for sure and yes, one must be prepared for any emergency situation no matter where you are! Stay safe!!

Wow Julie, I can’t even imagine! Thank goodness for generators and ice trax. Be safe out there.

Prayers for you and the others who are affected! So thankful you have the generator to use on the farm.

We have added a propane fireplace and have a generator now if we happen to lose power.

Hugs to you! :)

Julie, this is truly a scary site at your farm! I am so glad to know that you have a generator for your farm so that you can "weather" this situation and that you and those you helped are safe and managing until power is restored. Hopefully this situation will be resolved soon for those affected. Take care and Happy New Year!
