Farmgirls, I am excited to announce that MaryJane is giving away a copy of her Cast Iron Kitchen Cookbook which is packed full of wonderful recipes, including several apple ones. It also incudes her delicious Apple-Pie Filling recipe as well. One of my favorite recipes is the Buttermilk-Biscuit Apple Pie. This recipe uses her apple pie filling over homemade biscuits. Trust me, it is super easy and crazy delicious! If you don't want to make your own canned filling, just purchase store bought filling. When I use store bought, I always add at least 2 peeled and sliced apples, depending on their size, in order to get lots of fruit in your dish.
This book also includes great information on caring for and using cast iron cookware. If you like your cast iron skillets, you will want to learn more how to keep your equipment in tip top shape for perfect recipe outcomes.
If you would like to toss your name into the apple basket, leave me your name and one way you love to use fresh fall apples. We are interested in both sweet or savory ways you have enjoyed this very popular fruit.
Sign-ups go through September 14 and winner will be chosen on the 15th! If you are the winner, [b]please email me right away with your home address so that I can send the information to the MJF Home office and they will ship out your book.
Farmgirls we have a change of winner. Lisa already has the cookbook so she emailed me. I have now put all the names back in the basket and drawn the new Winner, Vanessa(Audra Rose)! Congratulations Vanessa and enjoy this great book! I already have your home address and if that hasn't changed, I will get this information to the Home Office to have your booked shipped out. Winnie, I already have the book and absolutely love it. We just used the book a couple weeks ago to get our cast iron back to good as new. The instructions were super easy and I now love using coconut oil instead of any other oil on my cast iron.
I love to use apples in many ways but my all time favorite is cinnamon apples. Once all my pears are gone, we will be getting some apples to make an apple crisp! Yahoo for all the delicious apple recipes!

I am a simple person and love to eat sliced apples dipped in yogurt sweetened with cinnamon, nutmeg, and honey. I share this treat with my dogs. I also make Apple Dapple cake and serve it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

I like to make baked apples in the fall. Just a bit of butter, brown sugar and cinnamon and pop them into the oven until soft. Add some vanilla ice cream when warm. Yummmmm!!

Farmgirls, you are making my mouth water with all these yummy ways to enjoy eating apples! Every year, I learn about new ideas for cooking and eating apples and I must say, they never seem to be the same as the previous years. I can't think of another fruit that has such diversity in using it. Can you?

Bavarian Apple Torte Recipe
Crust: 3/4 cup butter, softened 1/2 cup sugar 1 1/2 cups flour 1/2 tsp vanilla
Filling: 2 pkgs (8 oz each) cream cheese, softened 1/4 cup sugar 2 eggs 3/4 tsp vanilla
Topping: 3 cups tart apples, peeled and thinly sliced 1/2 cup sugar 1 tsp ground cinnamon
Combine crust ingredients and press onto the bottom of an ungreased 9" springform pan. In a mixing bowl combine the cream cheese and sugar. Add eggs and vanilla; mix well. Pour over the crust. Combine topping ingredients; spoon over filling. Bake at 350 degrees F for 55-65 minutes or until the center is set. Cool on a wire rack. Cut into wedges with a serrate knife. Store in refrigerator.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I do! I think I'll be making this instead of a pie for apple pie Sunday :)

Our family favorite is our go-to Apple Pie with homemade ice cream! I use my grandma's crust recipe and her apple pie recipe which is so simple! Peel, slice and toss with cinnamon sugar and a bit of fresh lemon juice. I usually cook my apples slightly before baking. YUM! We make our own vanilla ice cream to top off the deliciousness! I would love to be entered into the Cast Iron Cookbook give away! I have my grandma's cast iron pans and they are a family treasure!

Thank-you everyone for joining in and sharing some of your favorite ways to enjoy apples!! Lots of delicious sounding recipes and ideas here.
Everyone, please remember that our Farmgirl Apple Pie Sunday will be next weekend on September 24th! Maybe try out one of these ideas this year?
I hope everyone has a great weekend and possibly even having some nice cooler fall weather.
How about this bakery with apple pies baking?? Don't they look delicious? I would love to sit down to a slice of one of these pies when it is still warm. My favorite way to enjoy apple pie is with a slice of sharp cheddar cheese. My Dad always ate his apple or pumpkin pie with a slice of good sharp cheddar. While it might sound weird, it is really delicious. The cheese seems to bring out the pie flavor better and does not make it too sweet with ice cream.

Oh my goodness! I'd forgotten all about entering this contest until the package with the book arrived today! I love it! I have looked through my recipe book for the Apple Dapple cake but can't find it. However I searched online and found a comparable recipe, although I didn't frost mine.
Cake 4 cups peeled and diced apples 2 cups sugar 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans 1 cup vegetable oil 2 eggs 1 teaspoon vanilla 3 cups flour 2 teaspoons baking soda 1 teaspoon cinnamon ¼ teaspoon salt Icing ¼ cup salted butter ¼ cup brown sugar 2 tablespoons milk 1 cup powdered sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla For the Cake In a large bowl, stir together the peeled and diced apples, walnuts and the sugar; let sit for 30 minutes (this will bring some of the natural juices out of the apples). Preheat oven to 350°F and grease a 9x13" pan; set aside. Pour in the vegetable oil, eggs and vanilla; stir well. Add the flour, baking soda, cinnamon and salt; stir to combine. Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 40-50 minutes, or until a toothpick poked into the center of the cake comes out clean (or with a few moist crumbs). For the Icing In a saucepan, combine the butter, brown sugar and milk. Place on the stove-top on medium heat and cook until the brown sugar is dissolved. Remove from the heat and stir in the powdered sugar and vanilla. Pour the warm icing over the cake (cake doesn't need to be completely cooled). Cut into squares and enjoy!
