I know I should have put this under the reading format, but here it is. This was a nice story, makes we wonder how people got by with so little.

Nancy, you have perked my interest just with the title! I agree that it is amazing how people get along with so few resources. It was especially hard during the Depression years of the 1930s followed by the WWII war years.

I was never interested much in history until my Mr. Frank came into my life... he was my dear friend, WWII, Korea and Vietnam veteran... now I love stories from the Great depression/ WWII era. I believe it was the simple things in life, family, memories, sharing a meal together that really mattered. Seems like folks focused more on what they DID have then what they didn't. I will certainly keep my eye out for this book. Thank you, Nancy Jo, for always sharing your corner of the world with us. xo

Nancy Jo, I ordered a copy and it came today so I dug into it. It is starting off to be quite the story for 1906! I am enjoying it so far even if it is a bit hard to read in dialect of the characters. Thanks for telling us about this story because I think it is going to be quite good.
April, you might enjoy watching the two series of WWII : Band of Brothers, which was about the European part of the war and The Pacific, which was all about the confrontations against Japan. We have watched both series several times because they are do good.
I too love reading about America from 1900-the end of WWII. Another topic of that era that you would enjoy was the Women's Land Army. It was first started in WWI in England and we did a bit of it here in America. In WWII, it was Eleanor Roosevelt who finally pushed FDR to form a Land Army here again. It happened through the Dept. of Agriculture. Totally Fascinating!! The program was embraced better in England , but we did OK here too. I found books on the topic online in places like Amazon and Ebay and just loved reading them. Email me if you want book titles or anything.

Nancy Jo, I uploaded it to audible, and am enjoying it so far. I love literature from Appalachia, although right now, the main character is in MO. Fortunately, the narrator is quite adept at the accents. That always adds to the enjoyment. |

Now I’m intrigued Nancy Jo and Lisa. I love historic stories and tales from Appalachia, those were some strong hardworking people. Also, I have tried to stay away from online reading, because I would rather hold a book in my hands. However, Lisa your comment about the Audible version and hearing the dialects has me very interested to try it with this book. Thank you!
