I got my lawn mower today! Yay! I am so excited to, for the first time, come in from mowing the lawn and not have to immediately go de-fumigate myself from the smell of gasoline! As far as I am concerned-electric lawn mowers are the greatest!

I do need to buy a one more electric cord since I can't get all the way to the back fence.

I love the smell of cut grass. Nothing says "Summer!" like the smell of cut grass. Now, I know what you are thinking- "Silly Alee! It's just barely spring!"

But, in Wyoming, we hardly ever have to mow the lawn until May or early June. Just about the time we were getting out of school for the summer was when we had to start mowing. The growing season here on the Palouse starts so much earlier.

So- Here’s to Spring and Summer, fresh cut grass, good clean exercise and not smelling like gasoline!

We have a cordless electric mower purchased from the local power company at a discount when we turned our gas power mower in. Hubby has always used gas mowers and was doubtful that an electric one could do as good a job.

Needless to say, several years later, he's an electric mower convert and even recommends them whenever the opportunity arises. I love it for the same reasons; no smelly fumes and not darned starter cord to help throw my shoulder out of whack! Not to mention it being more environmentally friendly ;)

Our back lawn is awaiting the mower right now. Fella has taken apart the gas mower and has to go get some new parts for it. We really want to get a reel mower. In fact, when we were in the back yard looking at the no-go mower,it's parts spread all over, and smelling the petrol I said, "Too bad we don't have a reel mower yet, the lawn would already be done by now!"

"Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world."

Meggie-

Are you talking about the push style mower? Why do you not buy one? Depending on how many parts you need to buy for your gas mower- it might be cheaper to buy the reel mower.

Hope you get your reel mower soon!

My dad had a reel mower when we were children. It was fine when we lived in a small town, with a small yard to mow. But, when we moved to our house with 7 acres, it soon became apparent that it's days of mowing were over! So, it was put in the barn and a new tractor-mower took it's place to handle the tougher farm life. Sad really, it ended up being sold when we moved away. I wish I had it now. I would definitely get out to cut the grass. But, as long as we have that nasty gas mower, dh gets to do the job! :)

Wherever you go, there you are.

We got a reel mower last summer. It is perfect for our small city yard. We had an electric mower before that, which worked fine, but I always got tangled up in the cord. Neighbor kids used to walk by and hassle me that I should be paying them to mow my lawn. I love my push mower because it makes me look smarter than a fifth grader ;)

I've heard that you can buy reel mowers for larger yards. You can hook them onto the back of a bicycle and ride back and forth. Sounds like fun, if it really works.
