Ok, 'sew' I have sort of been MIA for a bit...
A lot going on here at Lazy Acres Ranch! Lol!
From grandkids, weather, work on the property and a bit of sewing catch-up.
But in between, I managed to score a 2nd Singer Featherweight sewing machine.. this one is a Centennial model!
It has the " 1851-1951 " badge on it.
It was actually came off the Assembly line,Oct 26, 1950 and was set to go to retail in January 1951, (possibly in Dec,1950 for Christmas sale)..
There are a few minor differences, but the one I noticed right up front is that the plate over the feed dog was plain, no measurements..
My other FW is a Dec, 12th, 1952 and it has the plate with the measurements.

I had several projects to work on, including a lap quilt that needs to be done by July 7th, as it is a birthday gift for my elderly neighbor.
Sew, I asked hubby to service both machines.. then I went to work!
I am sewing the quilt on the Centennial FW machine.
Ok, my break time is over, gotta get back to work,, can't have any UFOs hanging around!
Lolol!

Have a great weekend and get into some mischief, I know I will!

I love my featherweight for the consistent even stitches it makes. When I bought mine the man I bought it from just couldn't believe I was going to use it to sew with... Duh. it's a sewing machine and a workhorse at that.

Ok, quickie quilt is finished and tested out by the official quilt tester!

The front side is 3 different cactus prints and the back side is the 4th print. The front is cotton and the back is flannel. I washed and ironed before making the quilt.
Perfect little lap quilt for my dear elderly neighbor.(a retired Home EC teacher)..

Grace, I love that really neat Featherweight machine you found! Wow, how great that it is in perfect sewing shape as well. Your latest quilt is really cute. I love the fabric patches that you used too. The cactus fabrics are the neatest print and they are in fun and bright colors. I know nothing about Featherweight machines but it sounds like I should do some research and learn. I like that they are small and known for consistent even stitches.

Winnie -- you really need a Featherweight. They are lightweight, don't take up much space,, easy to move and take with you, and make a great stitch. No fancy stuff -- just straight stitching frontwards and backwards; the kind of sewing you do 99% of the time. Plus parts are still available on the off chance it would need one.

Thank-you Judith. I really need to look into this because they sound like such a perfect and easy machine to own. Goodness knows, I can't have anything complicated!!

Ebay has lots of them but you have to be both careful and lucky. We have a dealer who shows up at craft and sewing shows; very pricy but excellent machines. Then there is featherweight.com, also excellent and pricey. My sister found hers sitting by a garbage can on pickup day. You can also look for ads in the newspaper.

Denise,, my 1st one, I spotted it on "Mountain Swap" where we lived,, the man was clearing out his mothers home after she passed,, he advertised it as a "Old Singer Sewing Machine".. for,,, $100.. I nearly piddled my panties,, called him and shortly after I had a FW...
The one I just got, was through an on-line auction,, , hubby spotted it and told me,, I slapped a $200 bid about 2min before the auction ended and won it. We are familiar with this Auction as we have also sold stuff via them...
You just never know when one will show up..
Another popular Singer machine is the 401, 406 and the Rocketeer... which I have,, but my FW is my easy peasy go-to machine..

oh my gosh Grace, way to go. I want to find one too. Will have to look more. Amazing that you got it that cheap too. Usually they are up towards 500. Have fun sewing.

The Rocketeer -- the last of the great Singers. They are good machines; slant needle and many fancy stitches. I think my son is going to get mine. Hopefully it is indestructible as he is hard on sewing machines. The first time he borrowed a machine he used scotch tape for basting and got my poor 1970 Bernina all gummed up. It had to go to the shop to get it working again. The second time he borrowed a machine I gave him a hand crank, thinking if he gummed up that one I could clean it myself. He broke a gear. I don't understand how a man who can operate and fix just about almost every known machine can mess up a simple sewing machine. I have found there are a few machines most men are afraid of: vacuum cleaners, sewing machines, and washing machines.

My son learned to sew because his sister and I were tired of him asking us to fix something or make something. He found out a man invented the sewing machine so he was okay with learning. Pretty much taught himself. Very mechanical minded so now he sews costumes for his 501st legion friends and his LARP friends.

Isn't it amazing how modern men are fearful of a sewing or washing machine lol!
Yet in long ago history, it was men who seemed, were Taylor's...
Maybe I should not complain, other wise my hubby might be borrowing my sewing machine ;>)
