What have you all found is the best way to store root vegetables in a house for long term storage? I don’t have a root cellar but I do have a basement room I can use. My garage freezes. I heard once about packing them in sand but not sure about that method.

Also anyone else increasing their food storage? I am buying more canned goods and dried item (beans etc) right now to boost my stash. I also hadn’t been able to garden the past couple of years but am doing it this year with the idea of canning quite a bit.

Hi Alee. I have been trying to increase my food storage a little at a time. A local farm orders in bulk so I order through them. Over the last year or so I have purchased dry beans, sugar, rice, soup base (granulated), baking soda, lentils, split peas, cranberries.
For root vegetables, I know carrots can be stored in sand but I'm not sure what else is stored that way.
