Does anyone still use these? I just purchased one from a lady used twice LK 140. Does anyone know any websites for free patterns or anything that would help most patterns are really outdated in book. I thought it would be a handy new toy for the winter wardrobe! Any advice would be good advice. Thanks |

I have a Brother portable machine my Mom bought a few decades ago. She gave it to me as she never used it. I played around with it a bit but never made anything, and now it's in storage. Your purchase just reminded me of it, I think I'll pull it out and give it another try!

I have several Brother machines. For a short time I was a dealer, just before Brother stopped manufacturing and selling them. The LK machine is a great machine for getting started, you will love it. And then after you have used it for a while you will want another machine for bigger stitches and another one for finer gauge yarns and one with patterning.... and so it goes.
There are a lot of good web sites, and see if you can find a guild in your area. Mary Ann Oger publishes a magazine in Canada that is excellent, it covers a lot of different machines and techniques. The name of the magazine is Knitwords. InKnitters is another magazine that is published by the former publisher of Machine Knitter's Source (Plano, Texas) but she expanded into the hand-knitting market and now there is always some machine knitting content in the magazine, but it is mostly hand-knitting.
Several of the guilds/clubs have annual or semi-annual seminars that are well worth attending to pick up tips and patterns and machine advice. I am a member of the Grand Rapids Area Machine Knitter's club in Michigan and they have two a year - thanks for the reminder, I have to turn in my registration for the one next month.

I was wondering if you followed up on any of the leads above. I just got back from the Grand Rapids seminar, had a wonderful time, you can read some about it on my blog http://brightmeadowknits.blogspot.com. In addition, I had forgotten to tell you about Amy Stinson's machine-knitting email list (link on my blog) and also a machine-knitting yahoo group, there is a link to a machine-knit webring (only 16 sites, but some good ones) at the bottom of my blog.
For some reason when you said LK-140 I got a mental picture of a KX-350. That one is a mid-gauge machine. I'm not sure I am familiar with the LK-140 but some ladies were talking about an LK-150 at the seminar.
Also just found out that an old favorite newsletter for machine knitting has been brought back by a new publisher, http://www.countryknittingofmaine.com

Thanks again you are a sweetheart.LK140 is no longer made LK150 is the newer one but apparently the parts and attachments fit. |
