Thanks so much for the cookbook. I received it today. I haven't had a chance to take a photo yet (I've been dealing with a leaking water heater today). I can't wait to curl up and check out the recipes.

I came home at lunch to let the dogs out, and hurray! My book swap package arrived. Thank you Judith for the two cookbooks. Land 'o Goshen, but Aunt Jenny's recipes do look inviting. My mom used to use Spry, long ago. I'll be thumbing through the Settlement Cookbook later. Thank you!

The Settlement coookbook has interesting origins. It was originally created around 1900 to help new immigrants. It's a good basic cookbook with the added recipes of the countries people were arriving from at the time.

Vanessa, many years ago when I had just begun cooking I had a recipe that called for "Spry". Mom was away from the house so I called a neighbor friend for help. She kindly helped me understand the ingredient and helped me through the rest of my project. Our cookies turn out great. I will never forget that evening.
