Oh how I miss a good local Bakery..
That is one of my favorite things about Germany, especially the Baden- Wurttemberg region... to stroll down the block to the local community Bakery is awesome,,,

That's Irmgard in the red slacks and me behind her.. I love lingering by the door as the aroma of fresh baked bread, rolls and pastries waft by..

Oh what I would give to have a true local Bakery here...
Not a FroFro $5 Cup Cake shop or $10 loaf of gourmet bread and $3 Bagles,, just a good old fashion rolls, pretzles, and baked Cheese cake with fresh raspberries on top!
Where when you pop in, in the morning you know most of the customers because they are your neighbors.. and the counter staff know all the gossip...
That's what I love about Meimsheim,,, my home away from home... well actually it's Irmgard's home,, and I am just the Squatter.. lol!
Don't worry, I earn my keep,, by cooking and cleaning...
I was suppose to be there this September,, but we decided to wait until the "All-Clear" on COVID-19,, and that ALL restrictions are lifted both here in the USA and Germany..

So fingers corssed 2022 will be my trip...

Dear Grace, you are talking right up my alley!! How I MISS the bakeries in Germany! Every weekend we would go on our volksmarches and finish off a great hike with kuchen & caffe! My favorite bakerei was in Ostereich. During the Easter months they would have the best ever passover brother and my favorite quarkini's!! Sigh, it was so wonderful to stroll down the beautiful brick streets on ANY day, rain or shine, and mingle with the locals & enjoy fresh brochen! You brought back so many wonderful memories. Thanks for the smiles.

I miss bakeries too! We found so many wonderful ones when we were in Iceland and England before Covid. There is a small one in the town where live, but it is pretty pricy.

Your German bakeries sound so good. We have Mexican bakeries here. Probably very different but good for a treat now and then.

Dianna -- I used to love volksmarches! I don't know if there are any around here anymore.

Oh,, Brotchen (umlaut over the O)...

Yes,, a stroll/Laufen im Stadt oder beim ein Spur... a leisure walk in town or on a trail.. then a nice Cafe' for fresh pastrie and Kaffee..

I do miss the cobble stone path/single wide road in town...
I also miss seeing in the mornings, elderly ladies out sweeping the walkways in front of their homes.

I was chatting with Irmgard this morning (late afternoon by her), and it is/was raining,, so her hubby is watching Fussball/Soccer and she is playing with her embroidery machine..

SO maybe I should take a que from her and go play in my sewing room too!

I am with you Grace. Germany has wonderful bakeries and their dark breads are the best! Like you, I also love the many ways they make big pretzels and even sell them in little vending carts on the street. We are supposed to go on a Viking cruise in German in mid October, but I am not sure that will really happen. There are still many Covid restrictions and who knows if things will be OK by October. I am not counting on it happening, but we shall see.

Winnie, I hear ya! ... still to many restrictions in Europe.. that is why we put our trip off till next Fall.

I still wear a mask in Indoor public areas.. even tho' I have been vaccinated.. I am hearing the same old rhetoric from younger people,, who say they refuse the vaccine because they have a healthy immune system... but what they don'r understand is,, they can still pass the virus on to others..

And unfortunately Europe has the same issues.. there is a portion of the population that is resistant/stubborn... and so the Virus lingers on...
I love Germany,,, but I want to be safe and I certainly do not want to spread the virus to my friends and family there,, so I can cool my Jets and wait another year. In the mean time,,, I have a year to DIET and shed some covid weight so I can over indulge in the yummy foods there!
As we say... Lecker Lecker! yummy yummy/delish!

Hi Grace,

Denmark is the same...little sweet bakeries sprinkled around. Here, we have lost our little bakeries, too. Supposedly a new one opened up but I don’t thnk it is a simple, true bakery. Will have to check it out. We do have an amazing bagel shop but it is just bagels.

I love the way a bakery smells when you walk in the door. Mmmmmmmmm!

Now my mouth is watering...

Grace,

Guess what? Our little main street just got a new bakery - minutes from us. The fresh bread is good, a bit pricey (and I bake sourdough weekly), but the pastries? OH MY! Chocolate chroissants just like made in Paris, homemade cinnamon buns, rolls…delicious! Fingers crossed. Maybe you will get one too. It seems that what is opening lately is back to the little mom and pop things.

Oh Nicole, that sounds wonderful! I would probably be there every week getting some cinnamon buns. They are my favorite. I hope many more shops pop up around the US for us!
