Joan, my mother was ill for five years. Thankfully, her husband had lived and raised his three kids in the small town where I was teaching. In those beginning years she was at their new home, then off to the hospital, back home with home health, etc. It was crazy! Then one evening after I was finally at home, 30 miles away, she called me. He had gone to see his daughter who lived even further away! She was 1 and 1/2 hours away from them. When he arrived, they were busy with Wednesday evening church...no time for daddy. So he started home...but his mind was failing...which I had tried to convey to his three kids. Of course they all thought I was lying...until midnight that night. That was when he ran out of gas in a different little town. Thankfully the clerk was compassionate and concerned. She gently asked him if he had a number she could call to get him some help. (He understood her but could not speak well enough for her to understand. So she asked for a card with a name and number.) She called my very worried mom. Then my mom called me. That is when I said, call his daughter. Of course by the time they got dressed, drove to that little store/ station, filled his little car with gas...then drove well over an hour to get him home safely...it was nealy daylight.
There were many other adventures before that night and after too. But within six months mother had to go to the nursing home and he went there about two months later. They could not be roommates because he had to be with the others who had misplaced their minds...the lock up area. He wore a monitor that went off when he got near an outside door...which left this little old man bewildered, wondering what all the fuss was a out.
I hope you don't have to deal with that..but what ever it is, you are in our thoughts and prayers. We love you! God bless you.

Thank you Darlene! Got my fabric today and some bonus Morning Glory
seeds. I have a bottle tree that I will plant them around. Both prints are very pretty,
but I really like the pink daisy and violet print!

Darlene, my fabrics also came today, with morning glory seed. Pretty! Thank you.
When I was a kid, my mother always bought a package of blue morning glory seeds.
She would hand them to one of us and we would plant them on the west side of the porch...where they would climb up the strings and shade the porch.
When we arrived at grandmas house in early June, she always had three packets of moss roses seed. Our job was to clear out the left overs of the previous year and plant and water(this was the exciting part...we took turns releasing the break on the wind mill so we could get several buckets of water. Then reset the break, and mother had to help With that.) the seeds in the three rock planters across the front. Grandma did not have grass...she had a swept yard. Problem was anyone who drove up to her house came right up...almost touching the rock. That is why she had someone build the planters.

I miss my bestest friend too, Dianna! My mother was 80 when she died. Bay was only four months old.
In a way it makes me sad that the grandkids did not get to know my mother, nor did they get to see me going to visit her daily. They never knew me when I was a school teacher...although both of them knew me as a substitute teacher. They spent two years caring for their mothers mom. She was not nice to them. Oh well. God bless you my sweet friend.

My fabric is on it's way to you :)

Marilyn - I have no idea what I'm making yet. Last year I was amazed at the need around Christmas time. It was too close to Christmas for me to do much to help since I make all my gifts. This year I want to make a bunch of stuff for older kids. Right now I'm gathering ideas and fabric. I don't have a lot of money to spend but I was thinking of making aprons and pot holders and maybe putting in some mixes for cookies or muffins or maybe some utensils. I was also thinking of some mug rugs and a mug with hot chocolate. Maybe some fabric bags that I could fill with things like chapstick, bubble bath, etc. I'm hoping this summer I can find some garage sales that have cheap embellishments - buttons, lace, rick-rack, etc. We'll see. I'll keep you updated on what I make :)

That's great Heather! I'm sure you will end up with too many ideas. Been there, done that.
If you find yourself needing a place e to give your things to...think about a children's hospital.
After my grand daughters three stays i saw a lot of areas of need.
Each young patient was given a Build a Bear( from the shop downstairs), which received its own wrist band...and went to surgery wrapped in the arms of the young child. ( my g'daughter was 13 but was the size of a second grader.)
After surgery she was given a beautiful little quilt...it was pieced by some sweet lady and hand quilted. There were other gifts also.
Then the crafter girls came by with crafts in zip lock bags...so even when her little face was so swollen, her vision doubled a d fuzzy...they sweetly asked if she wanted them to leave one. Of course.

Heather, we were swapping 10" squares back then...so I made several little quilts...they were big enough to almost fit a twin bed. They were not as long as a regular twin quilt. My grand daughter told me she almost froze in the hospital...so every little quilt I did, and still do, has a fleece back and is tied with six strands of embroidery thread.
