I am making a Safari themed jean butt tote bag,,,
..
the back side is from a pillow case and the lining is from some scrap fabric that has been sitting in my scrap pile...

the inside, has 1 pocket..
so here is my cunumdrum... do I deco it up with yoyos... my fave go-to...

or.. do I Bring it up with rhinestones... or wooden beads..

I have to run to the Groomers today,, Ginger has a appointment,, and while she is there, I can dash up to Joanns Fabric, 2 miles up the road and peruse through their beaded appliques,, in hopes of finding a stitched of sequined African animal that I can stitch on to the tote..
What are your thoughts,, I am not a Safari/African kind a gal so this is out of my element.. anyone have a suggestion?

Yoyos might get caught on things when you are using the bag. I think something more flat.

I think blinging up with rhinestones would be nice.

Bling. Definitely Bling. Jeans 'n blings are simply made to go together. . .

I just finished digging through my 'blingy stuff'... I found some beaded fringe as well as tassely fringe,, but not quit in luv with the look yet..
And of all my stash of applique,, noting in the right color... Maybe I will hit Hobbyt Lobby too if I have time.. I luv yoyos,, but this butt bags needs something,,, to jazz it up and I don't think the yoyos are it..
Thanx Linda and Jean,, I am leaning towrd the Bling... :>)

After I took a closer look, something kinda jumped out at me. Is that Giraffe on a separate piece of fabric? If so, cut it out and applique or heat 'n bond it sticking out of one Jeans pocket. Then, go nuts with your bling and maybe a single yo yo and put a magnificent hat on the giraffe . . . just a wild and wacky thought.

I think wooden beads would go nicely. Bling is pretty but it’s not safari style. Same with the yo yos. Wooden beads would look nice or some wooden buttons. Maybe wooden buttons in the shape of animals. It looks so cute so far. Can’t wait to see it completed.

OHHH, wooden or coconut shell buttons,,, me likey! good idea.
I ran out of time and did not get a chance to hit Joanns or Hobby Lobby,, but, yes, I like the idea of the wooden beads too!

I used the only Giraffe 'head for the inside pocket,, but I could use the elephant heads for ther pocket..
Loving your ideas,,, thanx sisters, I knoew I could get inspiration from you all.

I like the idea of wooden buttons too. But, if you can't find any what about using some of the fabric to make a belt on the denim side? Maybe tie it and let in hang down a little on one side with the elephant on the other?

Just because the song is stuck in your head doesn't mean you had to get it stuck in all of ours LOL!!!! Cant' wait to see how you finish it.

Heather,, luv the idea of the 'belt''..

I haven't made a 'jean butt bag' in several years.. they are fun to create... the Safari theme is just out of my normal,,, but glad I am doing this one.. it will go to a wonderful High School friend who I had the good fortune to spend time with when I was in Palm Springs.... we had such fun reminicing and yacking about High School antics... I hope she will enjoy this tote bag when I get it finished and sent to her.

Thank you all again for the wonderful suggestions.

I finished up the Tote butt bag... and thank you for your suggestions..
Since I did not get go to Joanns or Hobby Lobby.. I had to wing it with what I had on hand,,, and in my stash...
My High School friend is not an over the top ornate gal,, so I think this is just enough to fit her personality.

Sorry for my crappy photography,, I still have not broken down and bought a new/better camera..

I made these Cork earrings and tucked them into the inside pocket of her tote..

I sewed on little seed beas for the eyes, but they do not show up in the photo..

I used fabric glue to attach the animals onto the fabric.

the 'flower' is a detachable pin that can be used on a hat or...
Now to get it off into the mail on Monday.
Well another project,,, that did not become a UFO! lolol!

Great job, Grace. I'm sure she will LOVE it!

I think I have some of that same brown beaded trim.

Linda, I literally had about 1" left of the trim,, so I used it as a dangle on the flower pin...

In past jean butt totes I have used bits of lace, doillies, ribbons and blingy stuff.. so for me to be more subdued was a challenge... lol!

Safari is not really my thing but that turned out super cute! I love the idea of one with doillies and lace - that's right up my alley. Might have to add this to my list of stuff try to make.

That safari tote is so darn cute!! Your friend is going to love it so much. One of a kind and super fun!! I am thinking your sewing room has a lot of cool goodies stored here and there because you always have the best accessories to add! I am amazed at how you take scraps and remake them into a one of a kind piece. I don't have the imagination like you do. I need a pattern or see something I could copy.

Grace, I love how that turned out. You really pulled it all together with what you had on hand. That’s amazing! Your friend is just going to love it and all the goodies inside!
