Linda every. Time I have had therapy, first they use some moist heat to loosen up the area. Also they used gentleness, not force.

Luckily I did not have a tear, so he didn't need to do repair. Through 3 incisions in my shoulder he shaved off all the bursitis and bone spurs, cut off a piece on the end of the clavical, and then, while I was still under, he moved my arm around and thus freed up several adhesions. He said my shoulder was frozen in several places, and that's what he freed up. My arm is very bruised, and that is one thing that is hurting right now.
In PT today, my therapist gave me three stretching exercises to do at home several times a day. He also carefully, but somewhat painfully for me, raised my arm straight up and out from my shoulder a couple times. It hurts more in the middle of that move than at the beginning or end. He also said that I am doing really well for only 5 days after surgery. He said to stop using the sling ASAP, which I was mostly doing anyway; I only use it for comfort in the car because so many of the roads are bumpy and hurt my shoulder when we hit a pothole (even though Ed tries to miss all of them). I'll almost definitely have more than 12 PT sessions, depending on how soon my arm stops hurting. Medicare and supplemental cover it 100%, so that's no problem with me.

No heat today. I've got the cold treatment going now on my arm. It is pretty sore after the exercises I did. He said to do the cold treatment before bedtime, since after using it much of the day it will be a bit swollen.
I'd love to be able to stand in the shower with the spray aimed directly on my shoulder, but I can't get the incision locations wet for 2 weeks more, and we have a tagaderm bandage on it right now so i can shower carefully.

Linda, one day at a time. At least it's behind you and you will feel better as you heal. The thing is,as much as the PT hurts, you have to do it so your shoulder doesn't freeze again! Hang in there and don't over do it! Praying for you!

Linda our physical therapy place allows you to continue on after the money from Medicare runs out. $40 per month. My friend who can no longer drive did that for several months because she fell so much.
