How is everyone going to attach fabrics or trims to the can? On line they use a hot glue gun, but in Texas, I'm afraid the glue will melt in the heat, even if it isn't in the sun. Any other ideas? Punch holes in the can and sew it on with string? Paint the can and attach things with brads? Just wondering. Any other ideas?

Linda, I'm not in on the swap but will be making several. Have thought about how to attach and will use my old standby - white glue. It holds up to our Texas heat and cold winters. It can be rained on but doesn't hold up if it stays wet.

If anyone is interested, I used a coat of Mod Podge on my can to protect the fabric from the weather a little more. I also used it to glue the fabric to the can. I decoupage a lot with Mod Podge on all kinds of wood, fabric and paper, and it is a great sealer. Never seen it come apart. I used the Matt finish on the fabric. They sell it at Wal-mart and Hobby Lobby where I live. Its Hot and Humid here in West Tn! Connie #3392 Imagine.... |

Hi Connie, I used Mod Podge too & the hubby let me use some of his industrial strength glue. Was even thinking of spraying polyurethane, but thought better of it. Could cause bleeding of decorations.

I will have to get some Modge Podge. I have never used it but I know a lot of people do use it.Unfortunately I have to go to WalMart to get it, and I've been trying to stay out of WalMart.
Otherwise maybe our windsocks need to be in a partially covered area but windy, which is very do-able here. LOL!

Wal-Mart is price gouging, at least that is what I thought today. I had received an email yesterday saying that masks were required beginning Monday...well our over zealous store started early I guesx. What I did was take a mask, ask how it worked, figured that out, put it on so I could get by the black shirts who were hovering, glaring at us as we made our way inside. After that I pulled it down a bit. So my nose was uncovered but my mouth was covered. When I'm totally covered up. . . I feel like I'm smothering. Asthma? It was my first trip in almost a month. The A/C filters are almost $2.50 more, the paper towels were $14.95 for six rolls????? Charmin tissue was $29 for one package that I was paying $10 for before covid. I did not need not did I purchase those things. I did buy notebook paper, colored card stock, spirals and envelopes. I won't go back in there again. I think my hubby will but not me. At least not until they come to their senses! TexasGran #6389 Let God's light shine through you every day.

Hi Gals, In a pinch I use good old Elmer’s white glue. Sometimes I thin it out with a little water. Also, fabric stiffener would probably work if you use material.

That's just crazy Marilyn! I think it's illegal to price gauge or hyper inflate isnt it? Jeepers, 29 dollars? I about spit my coffee out! I buy from Family Dollar. They are slightly above the normal price I paid. It's probably because so many were unable to work, produce and ship due to the pandemic. Another good reason for me to stay out of Wally World! eeeks!!

My hubby is on his way to HEB grocery store right now. They require masks also, or so I have been told. I think that if people had an a!ternative, a small grocer to get their groceries from...Perhaps we could eventually get out of the wally world rut. We have almost 20,000people and only 2 grocers. Both with only one way in, and the same way out. That is enough to keep me at home. I wonder how much wally world pays the local fire and police departments to look the other way on Thanksgiving night when they begin their Christmas sales. Once and only once did we do that idiotic scene. All I could think of was...'if this place catches on fire...the death toll would be enormous! It was a horrid experience

Our Brookshire's grocery have been requiring masks for quite a while now. I wear a mask inside stores and businesses to protect others. I just wish others would wear a mask to protect me. We could have COVID and not have any symptoms. That's why I wear one, anyway.
I was in Walmart last week and I thought that a lot of the prices in the grocery area were higher than they have been in the past.We just got a Amazon prime membership so we could get free shipping. There were a few things we had to order and shipping would've cost about $10, and this way we can order even one item and get free shipping on it. Plus we've been enjoying the Amazon prime movies. I'll look at Modge podge and see if I can get it sent out quickly.

I've been wondering about the size of can. I was going to use a can from the LaChoy beef chow mein, I guess that would be like a large can of peaches. But then I thought a smaller vegetable can might be easier to mail and look just as nice or nicer how I'm planning on decorating it.
