Marlene, I received my package today and I love the ornaments! Going to try the cookies recipes, they sounds good. The Christmas memory I think is the most special part tho. It’s a part of you. Thank you.

Jana, I am so sorry. Your little Christmas in July package which was mailed on July 21st and was to be delivered to you on Saturday July 25th...seems to be wandering around somewhere...I am so disappointed in the postal system. I mailed seven packages that day. One was delivered the next day...but the others were late and two are very late.

Hi Jill,
Thank you for a wonderful Christmas in July. I really like the recipe cards, how did you do that? When I showed my sister the redbird she asked where it was going, it is to nice to put away until December. Mom wondered how you knew I like Raspberry Cocoa. Maybe your son's Ernie would like to come visit my Elmo. (Elmo goes to school with me.) My kids think there is a camera, so I can watch them remotely, in his eyes for me. (there is not).

Glad you liked your package, I've belonged to a scrap swap group for recipe swaps and just copied two I had done for that, it was fun. Glad you liked the red bird, and glad I picked right choc. I did have salt Carmel and went back for the one I sent. My daughter had asked for dancing elmo, he was her favorites.

Jana did the post office ever deliver your Christmas in July? The tracking info says it finally delivered it on July 30th...let's see...I mailed it on the 21st and they said you would have it on July 25th...if I can still count it seems it was only five days late! That is absurd!

Darlene, I received your package! Thank you so much! I’m super excited to try the hot chocolate. I haven’t tried this kind before. Your ornament is adorable. My tree has a red and green Grinch style theme and your ornament will match perfectly! I’m also excited to try your recipes. Thank you for sharing your Christmas story with me. I wasn’t aware of the German traditions. To be honest the scary Santa part sounds horrible lol! Oh and we also have a See’S Candy here. Every time my mom and I go to the mall be get some chocolate. I absolutely love the key lime white chocolate. It’s been quite some time since I have been. Thank you so much for sharing with me!

Thank you Teri. Yes loved the silver star and German recipes and also learned silent night in German as a child. My classmates always sang it in church on Christmas eve too.

I haven't heard of Belsnickle and his twitches. My mom said that when her grandparents were in Bavaria, they had two Santa Clauses. One dressed in black and was really mean and scary. He would generally terrorize the kids...even putting chains around the parents and taking them away due to the kids being naughty during the year....Then the Santa dressed in red would come in...bringing the parents back and passing out the presents. In my childhood, there was only the Santa dressed in red. He would start out mean and scary...and yes, even putting chains on parents, but then would go out and come back in with the presents. My children only heard the stories...that tradition did not pass on to them. Germans are certainly of tough stock!

Belsnickle is the scarey, bad Santa that dresses in black and visits the kiddos. He has his little twitches that he likes to snap at their legs. Charming, right? LoL!
He never came to our house or to my kids when they were little. No wonder some kids would scream when they sat on Santa's lap! They probably saw Belsnickle the night before! LoL! Glad my German family didn't bring him around! However, one Halloween my cousin and I went to a party at the firehouse. My uncle told us he'd pick us up and when he didn't show up we started walking home. He picked us up near home and made us pick our own tree branch, twitch, and we both got a twitching for not listening! Come to think of it, He must have been Belsnickle! LoL!

Darlene, I never heard of the name, but your description of Belsnickle surely sounds like the one from my mother's grandparents. And yes, the Santa dressed in red from my childhood also would come into the house with a stick. He would pound the stick on the floor and make the kids get on their knees and say prayers. A far cry from jolly old Saint Nick! I know I have some pictures. I'll find a couple and post them. You really cannot make this stuff up!

This is so crazy!! Darlene I would love to see pictures! Growing up for me, Santa was always nice and sweet. So a couple years back when the movie Krumpus came out I refused to watch it. It's hard for me to imagine a Santa that is mean and scary. It's crazy how different cultures celebrate the same holiday.
