Do any of you out there have a specific hatchery you get your chicks or pullets from? I'd like to hear of any good or bad stories about hatcheries as this will be our first time ordering.

Hi Rose Marie,
We have used Clearview Hatchery in Gratz, PA. They ship to our farm and so far all of the ducklings and peeps have been great. Their phone # is 717-365-3234. We are ordering Cayuga ducks and more chickens and some guinea hens from them in the next month or so...... good luck

Keep Smiling.....Bev

We just recently lost our favorite Campbell duck. We named her Eileen (I-lean) LOL! after she was accidentally stepped on my one of our horses....breaking her leg. She ended up needing it amputated. She was a lesson to all of us.....in overcoming handicaps. She was the first to learn to fly....a real trooper. Sadly, the stress of a brutal couple of months was too much for her and she passed on a couple of weeks ago. We will miss her courage. Ducks are wonderful creatures.....perhaps the happiest creature on the farm. Have fun with your birds!

Keep Smiling.....Bev

Thanks everyone for the input. LOL Bee Haven at Eileen's name. Reminds me of a kitten my brother had. It was behind a box when he was moving and he accidentally stepped on it. It cost him a pretty penny to bring to the vets so he named him Paycheck.

I have used IDEAL with success. They allow you to order less than a big box of 25 chicks if you don't want that many. Other hatcheries may allow this too, but I'm not too sure.

Out of a batch of 12 pullets, 2 were roosters. Chicks are sexed by people, so there's reslly no 100% guarantee. fine if you can butcher your own birds or just tolerate a rooster running around.
