Just out of curiosity, any Cross Stitchers here on the MJF forum?
I know there are a few..
I do so love Cross Stitch,, but my eyes are getting so bad that I just can't devote as much time as I use to.
Most all of my work is done in 14ct.. 11ct kills my eyes..
In fact, I am thinking of buying 10ct to do my 14ct patterns on..
I also find the best time to stitch is earlier in the day when the light is it's strongest or sit outside on a sunny day...
I have the silly hang around your neck, magnifiers as well as a 'OTT-Lite' w/magnifier...
I use to take Cross stitch with me to work to work on during my lunch hour as well as Jury Duty.. but alas,, it may be something I may have to give up...

All that being said,, maybe some of you cross stitchers will share your work and post some pictures here..
I will go dig up some of my small projects to 'show-n-tell' ...

What actually prompted me to ask was,,, I was searching through a bin and came across a bunch of finished but never used small cross stitch projects...

most are 14ct ..

but there are a few 11ct...

as you can see,,, some still have the Hoop bend...

some Holiday ones..

did you spot the little Tea pot and Tea cup in 11ct?

I even did the same pattern twice! Duh!!

I really should frame these or???

oh and in the Bin I found 2 beaded x-stitch projects and a Golfer's Theme.. Not sure how they ended up in the Bin...
Oh Well..
OK,, these are x-stitches in my Bin,, I have a series of ornaments and deco pillows and framed work,, all still packed away..

I too loved to cross stitch and have for the same reasons have had to stop. I cross stitched on my baby girls clothes now 41 and 39 years old. My grands have started to pick it up now. I have a couple larger pieces that are hanging my house. And have started a couple new ones but it is so hard to see I don't work on them much.

Grace,

I love to cross stitch. I just finished the country sampler a few months ago, and the Victorian alphabet last year. I want to turn the alphabet into a pillow, I just haven't put my butt into gear to do it yet.

I haven't tried cross stitch yet but would love to learn. Just last month I seen some beginner learning cross stitch kits. I picked one up, but convinced myself to put it back because I have so many projects now. I still wish I would have grabbed one lol! Next time I go back I will!

There is something calming about x-stitch...
I actually take the chart and enlarge it then as I finish a set amount of stitches, I. Use a yellow or pink hi-liter marker to run through (on the chart) the stitches I Just finished. That way when I put down my Aida cloth, I can see where I left off.

Grace, that's good to know. I will grab me one now. It sounds so fun! I like your idea of crossing off what you have done. I do that with my corners to corners. This helps to know where I left off and help my eyes focus on the correct lines.

Ditto ditto. Eyes aren’t what used to be. My mother did cross-stitch, crewel, embroidery, and needlepoint and I have a lot of her framed items. When I get home I will take some pictures and post them.

I love cross stitch but it is getting harder to do. I usually copy the pattern so I can cross off as I go. I have one in the hoop now but it has a long way to go. I just do it when I get in the mood and usually do alot while we are traveling.

here are a few more..
remember the movie "Fried Green Tomatoes"?

a poem, and a locket of my daughter's hair.

2 fun projects

and a poem for our marriage, kind of hard to photo,,

mementos of our daught's High School

I have more.. to bore you all with.. lol!

I had made many x-stitch gifts and wish I had taken photos..
I was agasht when one lovely x-stitch pillow I stitched for a friend for her birthday,, I was so proud of it and it took quite some time to complete, I used velvet for the pillow and ruffle.. then one day while at her house we went into her tween-ager daughter's room and there was the smusched down, slightly dirty pillow I had made... my heart was broken because I thought this pillow would be a symble of our friendship... well,,, I got over it,, and she and I are still the best of friends...but I no longer make projects like that as gifts..
That being said,, I still do make gifts, I just remind myself when I give them away,,, they no longer are for me to covet...

Here are some of my mother's cross stitch and needlepoint projects. I'm sorry for some of the shadows on the pictures. It is hard to get light and no shadows. LOL!
CROSS-STITCH

NEEDLEPOINT

CREWEL/EMBROIDERY

This one I purchased for $5 at an estate sale.

I need to find another cross-stitch I purchased at an estate sale - it is a beautiful framed Halloween picture. I will post it and a few others of my mothers when I find it. I hope you enjoy these pictures.

Linda,,, I Luv the "Don't Rush Me" one! lol!

Your mom did lovely work,,,

I actually kept track of a 5x7 project I did many years ago of a dog chewing on a boot lace.. it took 20hours to complete...can you imagine what that would cost at todays minimum wage??? so your finding that lovely x-stitch for $5 is a great find.

I like to cross stitch and have some hung here in the house and have given quite a few to my Granddaughter who loves vintage. I found quite a few stamped pieces from the 20s-50s on eBay and had fun stitching them for her -- mostly dresser sets, etc. Still have some to do. I have a special one that I found several years ago when we cleaned Dad's house that my Mother had started. Mom passed away in 1997 and this piece was still in a metal hoop --stitching just started on the top corner -- with horrendous rust stains from the hoop. It took many sessions of sunshine and lemon juice to lighten it. Still visible but much better. I'm not sure why she started it as cross stitch was the only form of stitchery that she didn't like. The picture didn't come out so good -- the reflections on the glass make the white bare spots. I can't do counted cross stitch due to eyes that don't work so good.

Judith,, awesome that you cherish your mom's hand work and awesome that you finished the one you found..
My mom was never a hand stitcher,, she mostly knitted and quite frankly,, pretty much gave knitting up by the time I was 9-10..
Mom wan't a gardener or craft person but OMG! she was a fabulous cook and loved to sing.
We all have our special talents.

Krista,,, I have searched high and low,, and can not find the Leaflet/pattern for the 'lock of baby hair poem'..
When we moved in 2017, I pretty much donated all of my stitchery leaflets/booklets.. I only kept a small stash..
I can type up the verse for you and you can get a Alphabet stitchey book to use for the cross stitch poem.

Found it on scrapbook.com:

A Lock of Hair

(Submitted By: amanda corny)

A lock of hair from a child so
fair,
A miracle from above placed
gently in my care.
This child is growing up so fast.
Tomorrow is the future, today is
the past,
Walking ...talking...fading riddles
and rhymes,
This lock of hair remains a
keepsake of past times.

Oh Judith,, that is such a sweet verse..

The one I did is a wee bit different.. wish I had the leaflet with the designer/author's nbame..
I stitched it in 1980 when my daughter was 4 years old.
**********************************
Nothing more precious to keep
In tones of a hue so deep
As soft as a silent prayer
A lock of my baby's hair
I catch it before it lands
And save each shiny strand
A remembrance of one more step
Of my baby's growing up
With in this poem it will be
Lovingly placed for all to see...

It is such a sweet reminder of my days as a young mother.
