Anyone know what these are? They look like little apples... and yet the leaves looked like plum leaves...
they are only about 1 1/2" in size...
they are hard as a rock and there is only 1 seed inside and it sort of looks like a cherry seed. Sort of bitter in taste.

I'm curious to see what it is. Would love an update once you know. Is this one of your new trees?

I am pretty sure this is a quince tree. My great aunt had one on her farm and I would always try to eat them when I was a little girl. She made jelly out of them and it was good.

Farmgirls are correct. Quince. Bitter and not edible unless cooked well - like in a jam. They are more used as ornamental but in the apple family. Treat as an apple tree for care. Gets beautiful white blooms each spring. I have a bush form.

Thank you all for your input..
A Quince... hmmm, well I guess it will be my 'place a blanket under it, and read' tree...
Nicole, yes,, it is beautiful when in bloom,,, and for a small tree is has a nice shape, perfect for a picnic spot for my grand kiddos... I probably will never make jam with the fruit... but that's ok,,,
Thanx again everyone for your help identifying it...

I am intrigued, Grace!! While I can't help, let us know if you eat them and what you think. They do look very similar to apples for sure!

Winnie, I probably won't be to ambushes to make marmalade with them,, I will leave the tree for the birds... It does make for a lovely shade tree, great for the grandkiddos to play under...
BTW,,, welcome back Winnie....hope you had a great get-a-way...

I must say, this tree is both lovely to look at and has a lovely sweet scent...
the bees and bumbles are so in mass,,, that just standing under the tree I hear them busy at work...
what pretty blossoms.. Thanx girls for identifying it for me, a Flowering Quince... not sure how old it is, but the house is 35 years old.

Looks like your having a good year for blossoms too. We had lots of fruit forming this year. Unfortunately, the bush was overgrown so it had to be trimmed. Not the best time to do it, but we want to use it ornamentally.

Nicole,, we will probably do some pruning on it in the Fall...
My 2 cherry trees were loaded with blossoms and then cherries,, but then suddenly a portion of the cherries fell off.. We didn't do anything suddenly.. same water pattern.. etc.. oh well... there is always next year.. lol!
