For those who remember we have had two kitchen guests who have been interesting and charming but was starting to wear out their welcome. Well, last night was their first night in the smaller barn - just the two of them together. What an exciting time for them and I admit it - a very nervous time for me. This was the longest time that I have every had animals in my kitchen but our Colorado weather just would not help me out. Now that we have 56 degrees during the day and around 39 degress at night, I felt they could handle it. After spending the night by themselves and the Pry dogs barking all night - I do not think I slept more then a hour total. When I opened the first door to the barn they both screamed and jumped at the second door like they were being murdered. By the time I got the second door opened they leaped at me and into my arms spilling the bottles. Hugs and Kisses were more important then milk. After tons of kisses they filled their tummies with warm milk and sat in my lap peacefully. 
I will post pictures soon but with all their new found room in the barn and all the new experiences, I can not get them to slow down long enough to focus the camera. 
Got to run and make one more bottle feeding before this sleepy goat mommy goes off to bed. Sleep tight all.

Awwwwwwww! This story makes me want to cry and laugh at the same time... those poor babies, probably so scared, but probably excited at the same time. I can't wait until I have some babies like these myself.

Oh, those kids just had it too good in your kitchen! I bet their first night in the barn was like the first time a human kid slept in a tent- exciting and scary all at the same time!! I'm sure every outdoor noise freaked them out. Poor things! But, as long as they know that you will come rescue them, they'll get used to it. Your such a good mom!

Another night in the barn. They had their first intro to a skunk. I went out to give their midnight bottle and as I opened the second door there was this cute skunk poking his noise thru the gate I placed in front of the door so the boys would not go out at night. Sherlock and Watson were stand frozen with their faces pressed at the mess gate. I stood still in fear that either they would get bit or sprayed. After we all took a very long look at each other the skunk decided we must be weird because we did not move. As it ran off toward the house my dogs of coarse ran after it and all got sprayed.
The kids are running around so fast that I can not get a clear picture. If it gets sunny out today I will try it outside.
Hi Katie - As for my Dearest Thor. I have been crying for the past three days about him. On Tuesday at 11:56 after running around in the pasture and having a great morning he went into the barn to his spot in the hay and layed down and passed away. My son "Thank the Universe" was home to have played with him in the morning and went to check on everyone after lunch to find him peacefully laying in the hay. Buckets and Buckets of tears have been shed - eleven years of this gift I have been blessed with and a gentle passing is what I always wish for but still a hard week. The kindness of the other goats as they all came up to say goodbye before we buried him was our reason for living this life. I thank you all for taking an interest in him and he will always be a very big part of our heart. I see him in the great goats that play on the hill and I kiss each one of them a little longer each night. I do not want you to be sad because this wonderful billy lived a full life and give us eleven years of pure joy - can most in life be able to say that? So remember no matter if they are two or four legged enjoy each moment you have with them and forget about all those things that really do not matter.
Today is a GREAT day and one to live to the fullest!

Hi Mary Beth - Yes, it was Dr Watson how had the front left leg issue. With the use of herbal medicines and what I know to be true of the power of our body to heal itself - he is well on the mend. In fact, he can out run Sherlock. I do love it when he jumps and plays around when no one is looking and then to get first bottle he will limp a little to pull at my heart strings. Once I caught on to him doing this I know make him wait if he does that. They are really smart and I have to keep on my toes. Thanks for asking Mary Beth.

Grace -- Omigod, I am in shock! My husband and I both felt such affection for Thor and his caring nature. So amazing. And now he's gone. We ARE sad, but understand what you are saying, that his life was a good one and that he gave such joy. The lessons of life are learned, deeply and sometimes sadly, on the farm.

My son and I talked last night that what a wonderful way to go. It happened that way to his first Great Pry Dog. Jaws (and the name fit) played hard with Nick (my oldest son) and chaced a rabbit, eat his breakfast and a nice bowl of cool water on a hot summer morning and went to lay down under his pine tree. At lunch we went to give him more water and we thought he was fast asleep. After not rising to his name we knew something was up. There was Jaws with a smile on his face and off to a better place. It was a time for tears but also a time to celebrate the wonderful times we had together. Those lessons my sons have learned with the passing of their own father, two grandfathers, numerous friends and a great grandmother. If nothing else they know to enjoy each day with those around you weather they be two or four legged because tomorrow is never a sure thing.
That is why I feel so thankfull for those who share with me on this site too. We may not see each other but my life is enriched by having interacted with you.

Thank you so much Grace for sharing these events with us. That little stinker Dr. Watson, how funny. We can always learn something. Our old dog Calico went a similar way as Jaws. She took to her bed for 3 days and on the 3rd day, it was warm and sunny, she got up went outside and found a warm spot and laid down and that was that. Memories are left. I have realized I must always remember the good times in anything in this life. MB
