I think my cat can read my mind. I just think about cleaning her ears and she jumps up and runs under the bed. When I think it is about time to take her to the vet for shots, she does the same thing. I have had her for 13 years and I guess she can actually read my mind. It is uncanny.
I make it a point not to go towards her or even look at her when I am thinking about those things. But it doesn't matter. She can be sound asleep and that grey head pops up and she takes off running.
Anyone else have a psychic pet?
May God bless those who love the soil,
Patsy

Oh boy, talk to Patricia, Utahfarmgirl, she communicates with animals. There's an old (long) thread on that. Check it out. |

Well, my dogs just know when I have decided to take them for a walk. On work days, I get up and take them before doing anything else. On weekends, I like to be a bit lazy and will make breakfast, read the paper, putz around...and then when I figure it's time to go, with no word or look having escaped my mouth or face, they will start jumping around like maniacs, and KNOW they are going OUT! So, yes, I believe!

Patsy, animals communicate in three ways: they send each other pictures, they send each other feelings and the ones who live with people pick up the words used in the house, just like kids do. That's how kids learn words. The more you talk to them the more words they have. Sounds to me like you're unconciously sending messages to kitty which she's picking up on. It's natural for her. So yes, in a sense, your kitty is reading your mind.

I have been an animal keeper for nearly 18 years now, and animals will make a liar out of you every time! Funny how sometimes they can "miracously " heal themselves at the threat of a vet. Seems like all it takes is a call to the vet and a threat of being sedated. And yes, they do mask, but there are times when the problem "just goes away". Hey, no complaints here!
Animals also communicate VISUALLY (i.e a bird's brilliant plumage, a dog's raised hackles, the biggest male of whatever species with the best breesing rights), and elephants do it with sound so far below our own hearing threshold, it can only be felt! It's called infrasonic. People claim to feel the rumble in their chests sometimes!
Sometimes I think we are the "stupid animals". Animals pick up on the smallest cue no matter how subtle or insignificant we may think it is.

Well put, Anna. Sometimes, I can "hear" animals laughing at something we've done or said.

My mother's animals (1 cat and 2 dogs) know the difference between work clothes and hacking around clothes. My mother works for Kohl's Department Stores in the beauty and she has a black tunic. When she pulls out one of her tunics, they immediately go lie down on their respective rugs for "chews", and when she gets out her jeans, they just lay in her bed snoring away. If she says, "someone needs a hairbrushing", Henry, her beagle takes off and goes under the bed--he HATES getting brushed!
My Finnigan is so intune with my heart, it's a little scary at times. He knows my every mood, and is the best medicine I can have when I'm feeling poorly. He lays on my chest when I have a cough, and when my throat is sore, he nestles his long nose in my neck. When I'm sad, he plays like a jester.
Just think of all of the roads there are...all of the things I haven't seen....yet. |

Along this same vein I think those animals that can predict cancers and seizures are amazing.
In one of my dog books, the author relays how one of her clients dog's bit her on the back. The dog was aiming for a particular spot on the lady's back. After some prodding from the husband and another lunge from the dog, the lady finally went to the doctor and heppened to remember the spot. Sure enough, it was malignant carcinoma!
I have heard about and seen something I think was either on Public T V or 60 Minutes that talks about an inmate program where the ladies work with and train dogs to help people who have seizures. It's pretty incredible, not to mention worthwhile for the inmates to give back to the community!
And my own (now deceased) dog tried to assist me once when I was eating dinner on the couch and sarted to choke. She came right over and looked in my eyes and started walking around my knees like she wanted to help but didn't know what to do. Fortunately I was able to talk, so a self induced heimlich wasn't needed!
