                      | I just read somewhere that taking antibiotics can actually harm your immune system. Has anyone read anything like this? Does anyone know of a natural alternative to antibiotics? My daughter is 1 1/2 and has been on antibiotics pretty much every two weeks since she was born and can't seem to fight off anything. Of course the doctor won't tell me anything about this. Just wondering if anyone had any info/advice. |

                      are you still nursing her?
we drink water water water and no crappy juice like the bottled stuff in the storage isle in the market. We buy naked juice or make our own. We also tkae vitamins, a probiotic, and the girls love tea just as much as I do. that comes in handy for "kid tea" as grace likes to call it. It is cold therapy tea for children that I get at the natural foods store. they make other kids too. there is also yarrow you can take, either in supplement form or in tincture. That will help out.
We eat chicken soup weekly too, and I have to stand by the old, "apple a day...".
Zoe has only been sick once and Grace has really never been too sick, maybe twice, three times.

Antibiotics destroy everything, not just the bad bacteria that is making you sick, but also all of the good bacteria your body needs. Unless the dr cultures and grows your bad bacteria to see just exactly what antibiotic will kill it, they are guessing. That is why sometimes people don't get better when they take a certain antibiotic. Many doctors will prescribe an antibiotic when you have a viral infection, there are no drugs that will kill a virus. I have seen dr's prescribe medications to kids just to pacify the family...many times good nutrition, rest and vitamins (esp Vitamin C) is what you need to get over the bug. We live in such an instant gratification society that we want the dr to cure us of our ailment right now.
I would be highly suspicious if it were my child being on antibiotics for such a long period of time as your child has. And if your doctor will not answer your questions and discuss this with you then it is definitely time to find a new doctor that will. Doctors work for us, we pay them good money for their time and knowledge and sometimes they need to be reminded of this. There are some good dr's out there, don't get me wrong. I have seen first hand though that drug companies tend to regulate what dr's prescribe. If you notice when you are at the dr's office, more often than not, everytime you are there you will see some sort of drug representative in peddling their companies drugs. (Sorry for the soapbox, but it burns my nerve)
Have they told you exactly what it is that is making your daughter ill? I always take a backdoor approach to illnesses and try to find what is causing it.
I hope that your daughter is well soon.
  Blessings.... Sarah
