My husband has gone snow camping all weekend. I miss him, but we're definitely taking advantage of it. Lunch was Burger King and dinner is Top Ramen. mmmm no work involved.
And I went shopping! I don't usually go to Kmart, because it is out of the way, but I "shopped" online this morning first. They had light green glass mixing bowls and casserole dishes that I have been seeing in Gooseberry Patch and such catalogs for $30 just for the 3 bowls. I got the whole set, 8 pieces for $40. You gotta love Martha. I'm going to donate all my mismatched bowls and such and replace them with these.
And they have a bunch of really cute dish towels with gingham, stripes, herbs, cherries and the ones I got that look like bandanas. 7 for $8.99. Just thought I would share with you guys.
What kinds of "bad" things have you done when the the hubby is gone?

If you have a sufficient amount of flowering plants (orchids in my case) and other types in the house already, you can sneak more in......and EVEN if he says something like "Is that new?" you can always respond with "no, sweetie, that's been here awhile".....I like to define "awhile" as any amount of time greater than 45 seconds! Shop on, gal pal! Nance

LOL! I don't usually wait for my hubby to be gone to be bad! For me though, when he's out of town on business, I like to watch something sappy on TV, have popcorn for dinner at least once, and launch into a project like cleaning out closets or something. I don't feel like I have to have everything put back by dinnertime, and the project can spill into another day. He doesn't mind when I do that, but I just feel funny having him come home to total chaos.

In March he has to attend two different conventions. One's in Vegas, and the other's in Orlando. While he's gone I'm going to tear apart our library and go through books and cull a bunch. Then I'm going to put up some new shelves. There's a beautiful old round oak table that belonged to his grandfather, and it's so covered with stuff you can't see the table! I want to clear that out! There are a couple of filing cabinets that need clearing out too, and I should probably find another place for some old trophies besides in there. And I want to finish my bedroom really bad! It needs new paint, draperies, carpet and bedding. I'd like to get new furniture too, but I don't think that's in the cards for '07. I need to finish preparing surfaces in there, finish scraping, sanding, spackling, and wash all the old wallpaper paste off the walls.

Nancy, your husband kind of reminds me of mine. He doesn't mind what I do or what I spend; he knows I'm responsible. But it makes his hair stand up to witness the process of shopping itself. When we go furniture shopping and I casually say something like "Oh, we'll take that lamp too" and the lamp's like $500 or something, he looks like he might hyperventilate. But once he sees it all in the room he's fine, and he doesn't mind the total cost. He's always better with totals than with individual prices, go figure.

And the kicker hehe, I hate sleeping alone, so I let the cleanest of my dirty farm dogs sleep on his side of the bed. I was going to paint the kitchen, but that was more work than I wanted to do.

My husband works 12 hour shifts, so every time he's on days (leaves at 5:45 a.m. before I'm awake and gets home at 8:00 p.m.), I have the day to myself, and when he works nights he leaves at 5:45 p.m. and since I'm a night person I have until after midnight to myself. So . . . I have lots of "cat's away" time!

I do lots of reading, reading this board and another one I've come to love, writing letters, and stuff like that. Cooking? No way. Oh, one of my favorite "by myself" things to do is pretty naughty -- I fix a box of chocolate pudding (only the cook type; hate the instant) and eat the whole bowl while it's still very warm. Mmmmmmmm . . .

Some people search for happiness; others create it.

I spread out and take up the whole bed and read! Sometimes I make food for myself that I love and he hates and I don't want to make for one when we eat together.

Patricia, that's why I dine on popcorn! Hubby hates it. Sometimes I have it with peppermint ice cream; that's another non-favorite of his. Fun, isn't it?

My husband and I are on vacation this weekend in Southern California -- and while he is at the car races with his buddy, I have been visiting every yarn store north of San Diego. (and buying more yarn for socks.... I don't know if I will have enough room in the suitcase to get them all home.) I do miss him though - three days of racing in a row is TOO MUCH!!!

These posts are too funny, AND very full of great new ideas! I also do the "make something for dinner that I love that he hates" when I am alone. Mary Ann, you're a hoot! You aren't preparing to be "bad" in March, you're training for sainthood!!! All that cleaning; heck, come and be bad at my house! Bet that round table will be spectacular all shined up and gleaming.

Yep, when hubby sees how happy I am with some thing or another, he usually is ok with it, and I have learned discipline and a little caution too, when showing him something we "must have" (can you say sticker shock? ha). We do not always see eye to eye on what defines "necessary", ha! Ah well, that puts a little spice in life! Nance
