I have a kitty with a swollen lymph gland which I know is related to a bacterial ear infection. (It's just the one ear and she gets these infections a lot.) She's still eating well and other than the ear infection, seems to be in good spirits. I don't want to have to put her back on antibiotics, if I can avoid it, but was wondering if there is a natural remedy I can try. (I'd also have to take her in to the vets to get fresh antibiotics and I just don't have the $$$ right now - Dallas vets are so outrageously expensive.)
I'm going to swab out her ears with the water/alcohol/vinegar mixture and then treat them for ear mites again, but I'm worried about the swollen lymph node.
I got some antihistamine but since she is such a light kitty (she doesn't weigh much), I'm hesitant to try any people strength stuff on her, even a partial dose.
Massaging her lymph node very gently seems to help some, and she's getting lots of sleep. She's also getting vitamins and lots of water.
Any advice, other than taking her to the vet's?

I would be very careful about giving her people meds. Some normal things for us will kill animals. I have a book called Natural Pet Cures by Dr.John Heinerman. It has info on this I will try to look it up for you, but you might want to buy the book.
Ok it says to use Garlic, goldenseal root, and Echinacea together, mixing them up. These 3 herbs are better than anything else and are capable of fighting the worst kinds of bacteria and viral infections. The 3 together are better as a team. It says to layer them or give them at once in a 12 hour period. You can get these herbs in liquid form at a health food store garlic can be called Kyolic(aged garlic). Then put 15 drops of each on some canned tuna or salmon oil and give to your cat daily you should see reults in 3 days. Also there is an excerpt in there about putting the drops on the infected area too. Altough it doesn't say anything about putting it in ears. And you said she's getting vitamins, but it says vitamin E, A, and C will boost the immune system. Hope this helps. Shannon

I totally agree with you about giving pets people medication, unless I have permission from the vet. Our vet told us that we could use a half dose of regular benedryl on the dog because it was the same thing he'd be prescribing. (Fraser had the same ear infections.)
But, of course, Fraser was 90 lbs. and not small like the cat.
The lymph node is not nearly as swollen today but I still need to do her ears to get rid of the infection. Thanks for the help - I'll give it a try if I can find the ingredients. In any event, I'm printing out the recipe and it'll go in a notebook for the animals.
I'll have to get a copy of the book you mention. Thanks!
