with this cold weather and snow over much of the U.S. .. has anyone gotten cabin fever? and if so ..what do you do about it?

i've been 'snowed' in with the chilluns up here in Toledo much more than at home .. but i've not gotten bored .. that's for sure. playing with the grands .. making dollies and watching movies (DVD's) .. and hanging with daughter, wednesday in the evenings!

what cha'll doing in the cold weather? i know those with 'critters' on their farms to take care of .. it has to be business as usual! but what other things do you do?

Even though I live in California, San Diego to be exact, I get cabin fever. I have a 11 month old son and sometimes I get stuck at the house. Usually, I try to take a long walk (weather permitting) or I go to a mall and just window shop (for ideas). At home, I am just learning about growing vegetables and am attempting my first few sewing projects. I also try to use slow days to work on my refinishing of a few pieces around the house. They are small jobs that can be completed in a day or so.
The dog and kiddo keep me busy playing and sometimes that is what I do all day and that is just fine with me.....

We really only get three months of shut-in-the-house rainy cold here, but by mid January I've generally had it. I always have several projects on the go as I can't stand to sit and do nothing. I plan my garden over and over...it always inspires me.
I had promised myself I would buy no more fabric for winter projects now that I finished my winter quilt and a couple other things, as spring bedding plant season is now in full swing and I need to get on with it. HOWEVER, it snowed a bit on Monday and was freezing cold. So I found myself on EBay and planning another quilt. <sigh>

Unless it's very cold and windy we're out and about. We've been sledding and snowshoeing. Tomorrow morning we'll get up and drive to our cabin on a lake an hour from here. We're going to ice fishing and snowshoeing. I'll make a soup on the wood cookstove and we'll visit with friends.

http://jbeane6.wordpress.com/ This is my friend and neighbor Jan's blog. She's been sewing on her days off. I love the frog purse!

We turned our 3 season room into a 4 season room by adding a pellet stove, let me tell ya, it did wonders for my well being this winter. I have my craft space and large windows to watch all the critters in the back yard.

I have sewn more than ever in my life and that has kept me happy. Being creative is very important to me I have found; although I have never thought of myself has the creative type.

Meeting you ladies here has done wonders too. I look forward to the swaps, think of RAOK, and just love to chat.

We had 40 degree temps this week, but now it's snowing again. We got another 3 to 6 inches of snow last night. The tease of the warm temps got me Spring Dreamin' but with all this and adding some excercise to my life I feel better than I have in a few years.

My husband and I both work full time, so we're out the door every morning weather or no. On the weekends, we've been cross-country skiing. And I'm learning to bake bread. I would like to do more craft projects, but with such limited time available cooking is more satisfying.

We haven't had any have-to-stay-indoors weather this year! I wish we had, because I really love that feeling of being warm and cozy when it's cold and blustery outside. But when we do get it, it's into the craft supplies, my endless book list or cooking up something yummy, or the treadmill because I ate too much of the something yummy!
Have fun with those grans Frannie, and stay warm!

You are so lucky!!!! I have been traped in the house exept to go to work for 5 months and it will not start getting warm here till the middle of april. I am about to go totally nuts. My house is so small the I really can't have any craft projects because if I start pulling them out it make the whole house look messy. I read alot but still I want to get out and hike or plant something or go camping, so yes I guess you could say I have cabin fever really bad!!!

We're supposed to have a snowstorm this weekend, so I've made my list of things to do while I'm stuck inside.
1. Rearrange the bedrooms, still trying to decide which room will be my bedroom, which will be the craft/computer room, which will be the guest bedroom...
2. Learn to do the peyote stitch (beading)
3. Try to figure out how to knit (printed out directions from the internet)
4. Work on a felt stitchery project I've got going.
5. Arrange my farmgirl Valentines in a scrapbook.
6. Figure out from my tons of paint chips which colors to paint my rooms, whole house needs to be painted, all the rooms are WHITE, not for me, I need lots of color.
Anyways, that's what I do. Oh yeah, and I go through seed catalogs and dream of Spring.

Hmmm. ideas for going stir crazy...

I usually play computer games - the Sims 2, and design and build these elaborate houses for my characters. Or if I've planned well and have lots of groceries in the house, I'll cook. And then eat. And eat. And eat. LOL. Usually on days like this, I'll try an elaborate dish or do some actual baking. Maybe a cake or cookies. Something that takes a while to do.

I play with the kitties. Cuddle on the couch with the dog and read a book or two (if I've prepared for the bad weather and gotten some reading material too...) If the weather is sunny and I can find a spot outside that is sheltered from the wind, I may take a cup of something hot out with me and sit while the cats play outside. It goes a long way towards keeping the kitties from killing each other when they get cabin fever themselves.

I knit or crochet something or if I'm really bored, I'll reorganize my craft room. I "catalog shop" (not actually buying anything, but poring through catalogs, usually ones for seeds.)

I surf the net. Read up on my soaps. Read up on raising goats and chickens. Surf the listings at ETSY and Ebay. Spend hours doing nothing on the computer.

Occasionally I'll watch an old movie or clean.

JAN,
I don't think you are going to get cabin fever for a few years with that list!

While it's not terribly cold here, the rain does get me down sometimes in the winter. It's one thing i could really never get used to since I moved to the west coast. For work I'm outside all the time no matter the weather, but when I'm at home I'll hole up and go on the internet, read - anything from austen to horribly fluffy harlequinns, bake yummy things, sew, or watch bbc historical miniseries. Colin Firth in Pride and Prejudice is a great way to while away an afternoon...
