I looked for a card but I couldn't find one that just said everything that needs to be said about my Dad. He was a 36 year old bachelor, farmer when he married my mother, and took on three young socially awkward and to put it in his own words "yay-hoos". I was only in first grade when we moved to the farm, he opened his arms and welcomed us with no reservations. He taught us so much but I have to say I really think he was the one who went to the School of Hard Knocks raising us.
Teaching me how to fish, garden, butcher, hunt, shoot a gun, ride a horse, take care of livestock, cutting corn out of the beans, and drive. His stories, he always told these great stories and I believed every one of them no matter how far-fetched they sounded. He never quite learned how gullible I was even after I went to school and told my teacher that my dad said we were going to have to learn to drink beer because the price of milk and ice cream is getting too high and beer was cheaper, and I argued with the teacher because my dad does not lie. Even after that you continued the stories and I continue to believe them.
I could go on for hours about this wonderful, strong, gentle, caring, funny man, who was a jack of all trades, master of none.
He now lives in a nursing home in Indiana, he don't doesn't know me anymore. But I know that somewhere deep down in that great heart of his I'm there. I want to say to him across these many miles thank you, you may not have been my father, but you were and are my dad. I love you, Happy Fathers Day. Hugs Karla

That is just beautifully said. What a great dad to have, my dad is living with us now with a mind that is failing. There will come a day that he won't know me either. Hold tight to all those precious memories.

Karla. .how incredibly sweet! Made me tear up. I miss my dad so much and would live to tell him again and again how much I loved him and appreciated what he did for us kids and the fun we had together! Happy Fathers Day to your dad and all others!

What a beautiful life your stepdad/dad gave you Karla, don't ever let the dementia your father is experiencing take away those wonderful memories or love you both share!

Karla,

I am literally tearing up and wanting to cry. Such a beautiful, heartfelt post that made me miss my daddy even more. He is in a home right now trying to recover from a surgery. We talk every day but I worry because recovery should have been faster. It is so hard to watch our loved ones age.

This is probably the most beautiful thing I have read in a very long time. Thank you for sharing. Much love.

Farmgirl Hugs,
Nicole

Thank you all so much for your wonderful comments. I felt a strong need to put in words what a card sometimes dose not say. He did give us 3 kids his last name, again with no reservations. Yes, I was very lucky my mom picked such a wonderful man. Hugs Karla

Karla---I am so happy you had such a wonderful stepdad. My father died when I was five and my mom remarried. My stepfather was mean and it was a hard life---but blessings to you and your step dad---he is really your father for sure.
