Hi wonderful sisters!
Seeing that a lot of you want to join in (yé! aren't bees just wonderful!), here are the details:
This is a Bee swap. So either create a piece of Art Mail for your partner or simply send something related to bees. I want everyone to feel comfortable and have fun with this swap. No need for pressure or stress! Just put together a nice package to send to your partner,as long as it is related to bees. You have until June 15th to sign up and I will assign partner on June 16th. Please mail your package by the end of the month, June 30. Also, please post a picture of your received mail. It is always fun to see what everyone came up with! There is so much creativity and inspiration in this group!
PARTNER LIST Seeing as we have an odd number, the person you send to will not be the on you will receive from. So, make sure to contact your recipient for this swap!
Suny 58 (Dianna) will send to firecatinc (Lenora) firecatinc (Lenora) will sent to lovinRchickens (Kelly) LovinRchicken (Kelly) will send to hudsonsinaf (Shannon) hudsonsinaf (Shannon) will send to HollerGirls56 (Rebecca) HollerGirl56 (Rebecca) will send to RedTractorGirl (Winnie) RedTractoreGirl (Winnie) will send to jmcraftygal (Jutta) jmcraftygal (Jutta) will send to danyel (Danyel) danyel (Danyel) will send to edlund33 (Marilyn) edlund33 (Marilyn) will send to levisgrammy (Denise) levisgrammy (Denise) will send to Beccalou (Rebecca) Beccalou (Rebecca) will send to marjean (Marsha) marjean (Marsha) will send to meguira (Marilou) meguira (Marilou) will send to Suny58 (Dianna)
** I'm sorry for the confusion. For me, "Art Mail" encompass everything a swap theme include, with the added bonus of letting everyone create something if they feel like it. I find it less rigid this way. Again, sorry for not having made myself clear. **
If you have any question, don't hesitate to contact me :)

People---I love honeybees so much! I hope all of you know how endangered they are. Rarely see them anymore. When I was little I would set in an apple tree and they would buzz all around me and also when I mowed the yard they would be all over the clover. It is so sad that they are so endangered. If we lose our bees we lose a lot of our food. Let's do everything we can to save them. They are not just pretty they are they are the key to our survival on this earth. Also bumble bees pollinate things. Do any of you know if wasp traps only catch wasps and don't catch honey bees?

I have 4 strong bee hives. They are regressing down to small sized bees of which God placed upon our earth. They are never doped with chemicals or fed sugar which is harmful. I am grateful they do well in this hot Texas dearth that is soon upon us. No rains to help with nectar or pollen.

Kelly I hear you!! Thank God for people like you and barbara and many others who are doing our darndest to help the bee population stay ALIVE!!!! I cry everytime I see a dead one! I live around many farmers and nothing against farming but way back when I was little we farmed without all these harmful chemicals to super size and extend plant life and there were bees EVERYWHERE! Since I moved out to the country 3 years ago I have seen the bee population dwindle to almost nothing and frankly I AM SCARED!!! I have friends in Europe and they say their bee population is thriving. WHY I wonder? Marilou, you couldn't have created a better swap! THANK YOU!!! Shannon Hudson, I am thrilled to 'see' you getting back in the groove!!!

Dianna Yes I encourage so many to learn about bees. I love mine, they buzz all around us each day. I am still pretty new, only three years in but have learned a lot. Living next to farmers can mean devastation on bees. Mono crops kill bees. It's honestly safe for bees in the city, only because there are not loads of chemicals being sprayed on crops. If anyone is interested,Dee Lusby has a organic beekeeper group on yahoo. She really is a stellar teacher about bees and getting them back into a natural size therefor not having issues that we all hear on the news on huge bee losses. Need more backyard bee keepers as they are who will keep bees going and food for us to eat. I love almonds but refuse to ever eat another one because of the huge bee losses in trucking bees from all over to use in mono cropping. It kills bees, no one can live one just one food. Man is doing to bees what will be done to us when bees are no longer on earth. It is scary. Thanks once more to Marilou!

Shannon, I am so happy you are planning on getting some. I will help you any way I can. It would be so great for Katie and all to learn about them and be good stewards to them.

Sign me up! I love bees too! Not only honeybees....but bumblebees, mason bees, leafcutters and other native pollinators too. I've kept three hives in the past but had to put that hobby on hold for awhile to take care of my aging parents and other things in life that have gotten in the way.
Good question about the wasp traps. I've been using WHY brand traps for several years. They have two types of attractants and a basin of liquid that draw the wasps and yellowjackets in. I've been watching carefully and have not found any honeybees or bumblebees in the traps. So if you choose the right kind of traps I think they are safe to use.
Cheers! ~ Marilyn

I'm so glad to "hear" that others have the same concern as I have for the bee population. I live in the city and we have many projects to keep the bees thriving. It is called "sur les toits", meaning multiple bee hives are installed on the top of stores and buildings. It works really well! We now have different "type" of honey specific to each city! I so love the idea of bee hives but unfortunately can't have bees since we suspect our youngest to be allergic to venom or sting. We have to go test him. I'm so happy to hear about all your fantastic projects of bee hives thought! You girls are fabulous! If those dates are fine with everyone, I will change the post above with the update content tomorrow. Have a nice week! hugs xxx |
