Do any of you do dry canning? I have a great way to do it that does not involve ovens. Put your dried goods---beans or rice for me---in a clean half gallon jar. Shake up a hand warmer and let it heat up and put the hand warmer in the jar and seal as you would for canning. The warmer will suck the air out of the jar and it will seal. I take the rings off mine. This will keep for years. I am a bit of a prepper and I find this works great and is fairly inexpensive.

Haven't heard of this method. You are a wealth of preserving information.

Hi Barbara, When you say a hand warmer, do you mean those little pocket hand warmers you buy from the store and shake to put in your pockets? Do you take put them in plastic or anything before placing them in the jar?
