I'm so excited about the new addition to my preps. It's a flint & steel primitive fire starter kit and it includes: flint, steel & char cloth. I watched some videos online and was intrigued. Already being a prepper, I thought, what a great skill to have if you had no other means of making fire? So I bought the kit, and learned how to make char cloth because it's the most important part... and I made a lot of it and it came out perfect!
My husband and I were practicing our primitive skills. It took us a few tries, but we both were successful in getting the char cloth ignited. Practice will make perfect. My hands were black from the char cloth, loved it. I felt like a grown kid LOL.
I repurposed leather from a coat I've had for decades that I was never going to wear again. I made this leather pouch from that leather. I'm proud of myself and so excited to add this to my set of survival supplies! Now I'm ready to go play in the woods (not with fire, of course).

This is a nice fire starting kit. Your leather pouch turned out lovely. I have always wanted to try making a fire with flint, steel, and char cloth, but I haven't had an opportunity. I know in the past my husband has, so I am going to ask him to teach me how. It's always good to know these survival techniques for unpredictable situations.

Very nice, Connie, love the repurposed leather pouch! That is what I need to do better at, repurposing! Thank you for the inspiration!

Way cool Connie. I need to learn how to make a flame without a bic lighter or wooden matches.
