For those of you who know how to crochet and knit, do you think you can do more patterns and projects with knitting or crocheting. I crochet, but have never learned how to knit. I was just wondering if one ranks higher than the other with those of you who do both.

I knew how to crochet first, then learned to knit. I feel like you can do more with knitting but I never really got that into crochet. I do think it made me able to pick up knitting faster however and I've used crochet a few times in my knitting (haven't been knitting long, a few months). Crochet jsut never grabbed me and made me obsessed the knitting has.

I know how to do both..but knit alot more. I think it is mainly cuz I like the way knitting looks better. I think crochet is easier to learn. I have made a point to teach my girls to knit first so that crochet will be easy for them..does that make sense??? I use crochet for afghans or doily type lacey little stuff, but knit for other things more.
Boy, some gals can do anything with crochet too..so I think they are both great.

I crochet but do not know how to knit. I learned crochet from my grandmother when I was 12 or so and am reteaching myself. I used to think I wanted to learn to knit because there was so much more out there for knitters, patterns, books and such. But lately Im finding lots and lots to crochet. But Id still like to learn to knit as well.

I chrochet a lot and knit a little. I'd love to learn to knit better. The thing I like better about crochet is that if you mess up, it's easier to un-do back to the mistake. That's what keeps me away from knitting!

I have been knitting like crazy lately. I love to crochet .
I tend to use crochet to do work like fine laces and edgings. and
bedspreads ,and dolies
I really find knitting for garments and afagans more presuable.
Love to do both really. I do a lot of both too.

I'm a new knitter and a veteran crocheter.
Although I don't remember being taught to crochet, I think it's easier because you're only working with one hook...I'm finding that holding the needles and the yarn is tough! And also, the correcting mistake part that sleepless reader mentioned.
My MIL gave me a book of knitting patterns and it also has crochet patterns...well the knitting section is far larger than the crochet section, for both the stitch patterns AND the instructions! The crochet instructions take maybe half a page.
I am learning to knit for one reason...to make socks...
The problem I have with crochet for this type of thing is the 'knots' formed...I have a pair of crocheted slippers and they feel really lumpy under my feet and I have to wear socks so I can wear them without noticing so much.
If I didn't want to make socks, I would just can the knitting thing.
Even though I do sometimes feel left out of all the 'knitting swaps' posted here!

I guess that doesn't really answer your question...
I notice far more things geared for knitting than crochet. It seems as though knitting has had a big resurgence in popularity recently and crochet hasn't really followed suit yet.
But I've got my fingers crossed for this to happen.

I Do both, but find knitting far more relaxing and I love the out come.....I so wanted to learn to knit socks and someone on MJF gave me a site that I love.. I "fool" around with them when I am not up to par and it relaxes me....

I think they both serve a purpose. My crocheting skills are limited, and while I think knitting is more versatile, you can't beat crochet when you need something sturdy; bags, jackets and amagurumi come to mind. It also is handy when you want a more open lacey fabric or edgings.

I tried the knitting with 2 circle needles. That they say is easier.
While , I never could get the hang of it.
I made around 20 pairs last year for Christmas presents and myself.

I learned to knit when I was about 10 years old and didn't learn to crochet until I was about 18. I've done alot of both over the years. I started knitting more lately because somebody brought some hand knitted socks to our quilt guild meeting and I thought "I've gotta make me some of these." That was more than 20 pairs ago and I'm still going strong. I love sock yarns and sock patterns. Of course I do throw in a scarf or hat or mittens every once in a while. Personally I find that I prefer the look of something knitted over something crocheted. Not sure why that is. I find knitting to be more relaxing. So I knit. Socks.

Oooo...I wish I could knit, because there are so many yummy patterns out there. I have a friend/neighbor who is from Wales and knits the most delicious sweaters....such fine work with cables etc. I crochet...not exquisitly or anything though. I have to work with the bulkier yarns....can't hold the fine stuff anymore. Sure would LOVE to be able to knit some socks like alot of the girls here!
As far as patterns, the crochet patterns are improving and becoming more complex with finer yarns. But there just seems to be many more knitting patterns.

| Since I didn't want to bother with pattern conversions, I knew I wanted to learn both. I started out with crochet though, because my mom had crochet hooks, and not knitting needles. I find crocheting in the round to be interesting and fun, but crocheting flat to be very tedious. I don't mind flat knitting so much, and I've never learned how to knit in the round- so I usually do hats and the like in crochet, and scarves and such in knitting. :) I consider myself experiencewise, an intermediate crocheter, and a novice knitter. |

Aunt George. I agree. Crochet is getting to be a popluar as knitting now. If not more so.

My name is Wanda, new to see forum board. I'm from No. Attleboro, Mass.
Knitting is my favorite past time. I've recently learn how to knit socks, and now I have sock fever. Have you ever done socks on a circular needle. It's call the magic loop. You can do any sock pattern on this magic loop. U usually use a 40" needle . It was tricky at first, but my poor lonely sweater got put on the back burner, so I could be like the other ladies in knitting class to make socks. I'm on my fourth pair. In fact I just finish my husband sock, and have to start the other foot. It came out really nice for a man's sock. I crochet also. I use a 6 ply wool sock. It's very expensive yarn @ 24.50 a skein. This yarn comes from Germany. Have a good day.

i tried knitting with two circle needles. I haven't had any luck with it yet. It just isn't working .
Is the needle you mention new or 2 circle needles.?
