Calling for help I posted a quilt today on my blog it is about 9 years old. I need suggestions on how to make it so that I like it. Please look and leave comments or suggestions I hate that it is sitting in a drawer collecting dust so to speak.

What about dying it? You could pick a brighter color and dye the whole thing and the color would be a bit different mixed with the colors that are already there...maybe a blue, then you'd get different shades of blue and purple and greenish..

Well, I left comments on your blog. I have only to congratulate you on finishing your quilt. Those colors are all washed out mediums. There is no contrast whatsoever. It was very popular in the 80s and 90s which is why I did not want to quilt until my second child came in 2000. Then, you could find books with various colors and styles.
You should be very proud that you did it. probably I would just make a label with the story of the quilt and leave it for my daughter that way. i finally labelled all my quilts this year so they could be displayed at a local historical society quilt show. It was a blessing to know I have documented the work for my kids.
Love the quilt your tia (grandma?) made. Those look like feedsack fabrics. Wonderful to just have that for your daughter.

Sunshine< Each of the blocks is great! As with all sampler quilts you want each one to sort of shine so ( I hate to say this but...) why not take it apart and sash each block with an overall coordinating fabric but in a deeper hue than the quilt? That way each block is framed and I would do a simple binding for the edge in the deeper hue or maybe even one step deeper for more contrast. I like the patterns and the blocks, I think as is it just sort of all blends together too much for this style of quilt.(I can't seem to post on anyone's blog , so I left this here for you, hope that's ok!)
This is a nice quilt compared to "the ugly quilt" I am struggling to finish for a "customer". You can't imagine what she picked in the way of color choices against my gently trying to steer her toward more "palatable" selections!

Bramble - I feel your pain! There is little worse than having to complete a project that you have no good feelings for whatsoever. I completed a few of those projects and decided that doing work for others just wasn't worth the aggravation. Well, if it was a REALLY good friend, I would do it. But then, a really good friend would listen to my advice on color choice! ;-)
I'm heading south for the winter. Some parts of my body already have a head start! |

I have been thinking of taking the whole thing apart I was just hoping for an easier solution but it really hasn't shown up yet. I think that is what I am stuck with tear out. The ideas I have thus far are taking it apart and set a log cabin block, or a court house steps block, or nine patch, or even just a solid block in between each one and sash as this will add a lot of color to the quilt. It is just so blasted boring to me as it stands that I have to do something to it..

I hear you. I think tearing out is no big deal EXCEPT when it comes to a quilt. It seems like so much work and for soemthing that I might not even enjoy. So, that is why my blocks are still sitting in the drawer. Quilts have so many hours i nthem, you must love the fabric and end product to put so much of yourself into it.
I've actually gone back to small projects i nteh last couple of years as I jsut don't seem to enjoy spending so luch time on them right now in my life. I am waiting for less homeschooling so I can have more blocks of time to lay out and work on quilts.
Well, anyway, whatever you do, do it because you REALLY want to. ;-)

I agree with the sashing idea. Each block makes a pretty strong design statement on its own, so by sashing them they are each individually framed and yet unified with each other. I don't think the colors are medium or blah at all. I think they are just conflicting with each other right now and need their own space!
