I sent off the last of the BLM paperwork last week and have been told I can expect to receive my portion of it back this coming week, at which point I can take possession of my new horse 
I went to see her today and got this picture of her out in the sunshine. She'd slipped her halter off last night, so we had to rope her before we could get it back on. She's still pretty wild...and I'm pretty derned excited to get her home and start working with her!
BTW...DD picked out a name for her. Sun Storm. Goes with the 'storm' theme that we were thinking of, she'll be called Sunny.

Good for you, Tracey. The waiting is always so hard. I'm glad you are on the storm theme, tho I still like springloaded which she looks like she might be. How old and how big is she? MB

She looks adorable, Tracey! I love her cute little ears; they're so expressive. And I bet she has a beautiful little face under all that hair. She looks like she might be coming two; am I close? What's her job going to be?

Yes, Springloaded would have fit, lol! She's got a lot of stride under her, but she springs as she does it! Ought to be easy to get a post going on her trot, lol!
Since she's wild born, there's no way of knowing exactly how old she is, but she was captured in January last year, and they estimated her to be 10-12 months at that time. So she's probably about 2 right now. Not horrifically tall, of course, as lack of food always plays into their growth in those early years. I'd say she's about 13.2 hands currently. The HMA area she's from ranges 14.2-15.2 hands. We expect to see her about 14.3 or 15, but one can never tell. She's got a whoppin' nice butt on her, though, lol! Big and round, not at all like Quiet Storm, who's build more like a Thoroughbred.
Her job? Well...I dunno. My original thought has been to get her green broke this year and once I get her title, sell her. I know...how heartless! LOL! She's going to be a nice little project, she's got far more energy than Quiet Storm, who lives up to the quiet in her name (Dull Storm may have worked...you know how dull horses are, they just don't get phased by anything, but they've not got much to offer in terms of responsiveness, either.) Anyway, walk and trot and maybe taking her leads by next winter, and then we'll see. If City Boy falls in love with her, he can keep her for a trail horse. Otherwise I think she'd make a terrific green horse project for some 4-H kid, or even an adult who likes the idea of a mustang but hasn't got the facilities or gumption to take on the 'wild' side. She appears to be quite smart, and she's not mean spirited in the least...just doesn't trust yet. Should be fun!

Sunny is a great name for her. I have a theme for my horses. Skye, Breeze, Major Sage Breeze and Sage's Rayn (she was born in the pouring rain) She is beautiful. You are Blessed to have her.

Tracey, I think it's really awesome that you are humble enough to take on a creature that's not a high-class registered "breed"(TB, QH, TWH, Etc) I also have a wild horse, that I got about 12 years ago from Chincoteague, VA. She's about 14 hh palomino, my first horse. She does have some Mustang blood as well. During the 1960s, mustangs were brought in to introduce 'new' genes to the chincoteague bloodline to prevent it from getting inbread. Wild horses are very hardy, very easy keepers. Cristine, I had no idea that they'd added new blood to the Chincotegue ponies, although it makes sense to do so. The 'national' Chincoteague registry is just around the corner from me here. Cracks me up; guess no one else back east thought to do it? WA is about as far as you can get.
Oh...and the whole humble thing? LOL! My babies are better than those papered creatures any day of the week, and we all three know it, hahahaha! My QH friends just shake their heads, wondering what the heck I'm smoking, lol!

Paperwork is here...Sunny will be coming home on Sunday!! I may just drive down that morning to get some shots of her loading into the trailer for my blog. Ought to drive Steve nuts, lol! Then I'll have to race to beat him home so I can take more of her getting out. Of course, the mustang blog will have to be updated with the entire story...

High class registered breed??? Okay, you got me laughing with that one. Around here you can pay $100 for a papered QH weanling from the PMU sales,or for BS paints. So much for high class registered breeds. I have some very expensive horses, and an old grade pony. None of them knows their price tags or reads their pedigree, so they're all treated the same. 
Around here, mustangs have a certain cachet. Pretty is as pretty does. Papers don't mean a lot.
Not that I'm not wondering what you're smoking too... |
