Been sidelined for about 4 days now and not weaving at all...having extreme pain in my right arm-especially when I lift my arm-thank goodness I'm left handed! I think it might be due to repetitive motion of throwing the shuttle. Contacted my Dr. who can't see me until May 16th. Meanwhile, Tylenol Arthritis twice a day and I just started Cod Liver oil capsules--lottsa Ben Gay too. ![](icons/icon_smile_sad.gif)
Any natural remedy advice for this type of weaving injury would be greatly appreciated!

Melody, you can also add an ice pack 4 times a day to the sore area to help with the swelling. Sometimes ice can be really helpful in reducing pain. In case it is a repetition injury, it might be best to not work until the issue has been better resolve. I am so sorry to hear about your injury and I know how frustrating it is too, I have a similar problem when I knit for a long time! It makes me crazy when it happens!!

Melody, I'm sooooooo sorry! Take care of yourself. I agree with Winnie about ice. While sometimes it doesn't sound "nice" to use ice because it's cold, it could be very helpful. I've discovered that it works really well on my neck and back pain . . . go to bed with a gel icepak. I always fall asleep even with the cold and when I wake up I still have the icepak in place but it's all melted and soft! CJ

Look up some physical therapy or yoga exercises to relieve and strengthen the areas you use most. I have seen lots of articles about yoga for those who knit and crochet.

Very frustrating---I have already paid for my table at Curtis for the Art show and need to build up stock---Time line is extremely important. I haven't really tried ice--I thought heat? Gotta couple of ice packs in the freezer--I'll try anything right now so I can get back on course and complete my goal of 50 rugs. I never in a million years considered that I would end up with a useless right arm! So---typically me.
Thank you ladies for all of your GOOD advice. Makes me want to cry.

I am so sorry, Melody! Try and rest up. I know having a deadline doesn't help things. Hopefully you will start feeling better soon. Maybe your doctor will have a cancellation and you can get in sooner.

Dr. is VERY good at what she does. When I transcribed for her clinic many years ago, she was, and is, a huge proponent of good old soap and water! Basic, simple, common sense medical advice. I'm willing to hold off and hope for a cancellation soon...meanwhile, I have emailed her and she told me what to take OTC and also suggested Tumeric? She mentioned that as well. Anyone out there try that? I'm game for just about anything right now!

Melody. If I over do I get that same pain. I had to change my routine and not do things for longer than 20 minutes at a time. Then do something completely different. Good luck!

Bonnie....that's just about the length of time I can weave and then I stop because it hurts so darn much. I used to do hours and hours. I tried a little today and could only throw a couple of 'shots' and quit. So, today I've been tying fringe-sewing strips and rolling a couple of fabric balls. I have dozens of lidded clear containers that I pre-sort 4-5 fabric balls to each container and make a specific rug with that fabric. I'm keeping busy-it's just the weaving that is on hold. I used to be patient but it seems the older I get the bigger hurry I'm in! My arm is not cooperating so I am going to have to wait it out for it seems, a good while longer.

Melody...I had the same problem when I use to stand at a computer and enter my inventory for the store for hours. The constant same motions hurt my right wrist, arm, and even my right breast from holding my arm in the air for hours. All the remedies mentioned above are good ones. I would Ice and once you have some pain relief start some easy yoga for your wrist and arm. You can also alternate ice one time and then heat, ice and heat at least 4-6 times per day. Hope it gets better and you can get back in the swing of things.
Hugs and Prayers, Peggy

Mel... I use Tureric... I take 2 capsuls daily (1000mg).... for my arthritis ... it hasn't 'cured ' me... but... it hss helped deminish the level of pain/discomfort that I have in my wrist. I buy mine at CostCo... I use to just take a teaspoonful followed with a 8oz glass of water... but let me tell you.... it tastes like dirt... so I use the capsuls....

Grace...I use Turmeric for diabetic nerve pain and burning. I put mine in a Protein Smoothie that I drink every morning for breakfast. It totally takes away the burning sensation in my hands and feet. Everyone should use Turmeric. I also put local Bee Pollen in the Smoothie too...just as an aide to go along with the Turmeric. My Mother, like you uses it for her Arthritis too. It helps mine also.

Mel, I have had a neck fusion and lumbar laminectomy. Arm ,shoulder and hand pain flare when I overuse them. Moist heat is what works best for me. I made rice bags in different sizes. They easily mold to the site. Microwave 1-2 minutes according to size. Give it a try. The antidote is whatever works for you. Feel better!
