I do love the way it drapes. Shorter on the sides, longer in front. It looks so cozy and like you are a pioneer woman making something to keep yourself warm for the long winters on the prarie!

How cute! Did you put in a zipper or tie for holding it on? Is it terribly heavy to wear and walk in? Very prairie girl!

It is a wrap skirt with super long ties. It is heavy but not hard to walk in or wear. I think you can see them in the second photo, the photo of the backside.

I am glad I am not the only one who loves the "prairie girl" feel. I too wear long skirts, petticoated with an extra layer for warmth and leggings. It never slows me down, and i can hop right up on a tractor very comfortably.

Great job, Tasha on the skirts. You wear it with great style to boot.

Tasha, that's great!
I am seriously considering switching to skirts and petticoats...I LOVE how it feels to be wearing them.

I have a favorite petticoat that I made from a pair of eyelet curtain panels... it's very sweet.

Wow! It seems as though each day I come to this site, I read/see another thing that just burns this dream of farm-life deeper into my heart... It's a good feeling, but it can make it hard to be in the 'waiting' time of it...
All of you inspire me. Thanks.
Faith

If I remember correctly in the movie 7 brides for 7 brothers the brides during the winter months of captivity made dresses out of quilts.

Oh, how fun!! I love it!!! I think you have a wonderful sense of personal style and great sense of design. I am working on this as I feel more timid about reinventing items, but I am getting better.

I love the long skirts and wear them with leggings or warm cottong tights, too. Too cold today for one, though, unless I stay inside for most of it.

Sunshine, I saw Seven Brides for Seven Brothers MANY times as my in laws own it, and my daughter adores it. Yes, they were making skirts from quilts in the movie.

Oh no Clare, you can still wear skirts and dresses on cold days. I wear tights and pettis with long skirts to stay warm. I love it. I feel so girlie and feminine (strange thing to hear from a feminist-huh?) and I feel like I am suppose to be this way. I love my skirts...
