My daughter called me yesterday to say that our dogs, Bentley and Rilo, had brought home a little puppy and that they were all having so much fun playing in the back yard. Agains my protests, she FED the "little" puppy on the back porch. When I arrived home, I found that this puppy was the size of a small bear cub!!! It's huge. And, it will not go home. My fear is that someone has left him off because either a. they realized that he was going to be huge or b. they decided they just did not want him- or there is the possibility that perhaps he is lost and someone, hopefully, is looking for him.
I am making up flyers to post at the grocery stores and vet offices in our area.
Bentley has a habit of bringing home wayward dog friends. He is 9 years old now, has never been in a dog fight, has pals that he goes to visit during the day and feels that if one of the dogs he meets is not being cared for properly, he brings them home. Apparently he is the great caretaker of stranded animals. Unfortunately, my husband does not share the same feelings as Bentley, or Rilo!
So now, we have this little "bear cub" laying at our doorstep, looking at us with his very beautiful hazel eyes, wagging his tale and pulling out all the stops to make us like him, and one very grumpy dad! And my daughter wants to keep him. The question is - who will win this battle?
I hope that we find his owners soon!

I used to bring home cats all the time and tell my mom, "But they NEED us!"

My husband and I took this "bear cub" to the humane society in Atlanta today. I felt so sorry for him, because he was so happy to be riding in the truck with us. Well, when we got there, we found out that they could not accept him as they were FULL!! We could be put on a waiting list, but there are 109 people ahead of us. And, there is no guarantee they will take him. SOOOOO- it looks like we have a new dog. (We tried to call all of the local humane societies and they are full as well.) It's off to the vet next week for a little snip-snip and shots. Oh, and fencing in part of our back yard so he and the other 2 can play without roaming all over the neighborhood. Now, for a name. I am such a wimp.

Looks like he is part chow to me!! Is his tongue blue or spotted??? He sure is a cutie! I have a soft spot for dogs..my husband it is cats so between the two of us we stay at a pretty reasonable level of pets..well, 3 dogs and 2 cats...but about 4 stray cats that we feed all the time..one that he named so I guess we have 3 that we should claim.
I would name him Red.

He's adorable! I knew some people once who had a Newfoundland they named Oso- I think that's Norwegian for bear.

I firmly believe you don't pick your pets, they pick you.

Good for you, taking in this puppy! Or good for Bentley for looking after the little guy! Can you imagine the 'conversation' between the two? 'Hey, kid, you lost? Come with us! We have a great place and some great peeps! Stick with me, kid, and do that thing with your eyes. We'll win them over!'

OOOHH! He's such a sweet furry boy! We now have five dogs, three of which were abandoned on our farm property. I think we're all a bunch of softies!

I love dogs! And he is just a cutie! To me it sounds like he was meant to be with you and your family. One day you will look back and know why he walked into your lives. Things happen for a reason. How is he adjusting so far?

Bear (what else COULD we call him) is adjusting well thus far. He is adapting to being in the house for short periods of time, is sitting on command and has learned that he may not eat any of my shoes. He is so sweet and gentle, which is good because he is growing everyday. He is pretty easy to train! We will be fencing in the back yard (never had to with the other dogs) soon so he will be able to roam at will. He goes to the vet on Friday for the little snip-snip and some shots. No one has called to lay claim to him, so I guess he was destined to be here. I think my husband has resigned himself to the fact that he is here to stay. He still isn't thrilled. Poor guy- he hates animals and he marries a woman who adores them. Ah, well.
So, Bear and Bentley and Rilo are now becoming fast friends!
