OK,,, I do not know why,,, but... I am 'Pinwheel' challenged!!! I can never seem to get them to line up with out doing major fussy stitching.... So recently I viewed a somewhat easy peasy pinwheel cutting/stitching directions on 'youtube'... Well it was certainly easier and faster then cutting out the triangles... but when it came to lining up the pieces I still am challenged... oh well, still better then what I was producing... cut and stitch 2pc RST
![](http://www.maryjanesfarm.org/Snitz/Images/2017/01/DSCF5503.jpg?v 41740826) cut across diagonally and then diagonally from the other corner.

![](http://www.maryjanesfarm.org/Snitz/Images/2017/01/DSCF5506.jpg?v 90647532) and here is what you (me) get...
![](http://www.maryjanesfarm.org/Snitz/Images/2017/01/DSCF5510.jpg?v 99948412) my pts were not perfect but, with time I think I will master it...
![](http://www.maryjanesfarm.org/Snitz/Images/2017/01/DSCF5511.jpg?v 72081140) and this is what I do to kill some time waiting for a break in the rains to go run into town to the Post Office...![](icons/icon_smile_big.gif)

Grace the problem with pinwheels is all the bias grain. Use a generous spray of starch. I do this and my pinwheels still need to be fussy cut but it helps.

I have had the same experience as Diana, once I started starching them I noticed they stretch less and my right and 45 degree angles are cleaner.

Omg! What a great tip... and I just happen to have both areolsol and liquid starch! And yep I noticed that there were bits of "stretchiness" when I was sewing the seams together...![](icons/icon_smile_big.gif) You gals are awesome!

I love half square triangles (HST)! I did a tutorial on what I call "mass production HST" method that you may want to check out. It does require a square up ruler but it is accurate. I always trim my HST because no matter how hard I try, they always come out wonky! It's the nature of the beast! lol

I'm a starcher! With starch, you are more likely to get accuracy. Oh, and your 1/4 inch is extremely important. The beauty of the "mass production HST" is that the quarter inch is not that much of an issue since you are trimming.
BTW, the ruler I suggest is a must. It's a great ruler and you can also use it to trim hour glass, another of my favourite block!
I love to quilt! It's a passion of mine! Have fun creating your pinwheels!
