Etsy has changed their algorithm yet again. Is your shop doing less sales than last year? Or, more sales than last year?

Want to get your shop from zero sales to the $ amount you need to make in just a years time?

Check out this new team I found that is giving step by step tips on how to reach your goals with your Etsy shop.

The team is called: A Journey to $3000 in Sales

https://www.etsy.com/teams/29302/a-journey-to-3000-in-sales

One of our farm girl friends that is my best friend is the team Captain.

YES. I thought it was just my shop. I am down to 1/4 of my sales this year compared to last year. What's going on? It's very depressing, Do you know of any other venue like Etsy I might try? Because it just isn't working anymore with Etsy.

My vintage shop used to get 9 to 15 sales a month on average. This month zero so far.

My hollow book shop has done 1 sale a month on average this year. Last year we got a huge order for 32 books from one customer. That will be hard to beat this year.

My MOS shop tripled the sales over last year with my weekly planners. But, lately I only get 1 sale a month.

My best advise is to ride it out until the first of the year and then see what else Etsy pulls before you call it quits.

I am wondering if everyone is a bit hesitant because of the economy and the election issues. I know my spending is way down, even for items I really really like. Sorry to hear about the slow down of sales.

I just deactivated all of my listings on etsy. Their fee structure was driving me insane. Unless you let them auto bill you, before you can print out a shipping label you must 'make a payment', against what? who knows. Then they pay the label cost, and bill your account. Since I refuse to auto pay because its really not necessary, I'm constantly 'making a payment' even when I don't owe anything. Then I get a bill for 25-30 bucks a months for the labels they 'paid for'. The whole things doesnt sound right. And while I have contacted them about it, they have a clever way of explaining it. With ebay, money from sales goes directly into my paypal account. When I print a shipping label on ebay, the money for the label comes right our of my paypal account. My only fees to ebay are billed monthly are are the sellers fees, insertion fees, etc. Ebay is much easier to understand, BUT between making a sale, I'm paying 4 different fees between ebay and paypal. I've used both ebay and paypal for years, and what I like most is that I can get a rep on the phone whenever I need to. Even though ebays reps are from india, they are always friendly and my call is answered quickly.

Because I have so many sewing machine parts, its not worth listing 1000 or more parts on ebay, so i made my website for those parts on snappages.com. Its easy to set up a website. With my soap I use wix.com.

Having tried various web hosts, ebay and etsy over the years, I find ebay good for selling things you know will sell quick, and a website for when you have a ton of items like me. I understand that etsy use to be handmade, but now it seems anything is permitted. And with soaps like mine, there is SO much competition on etsy, I don't find it very useful for exposure with my soap line.

Connie are you able to make an income with your own website? How do you drive traffic to your Wix website?

That is the reason I stay on Etsy is because they drive the traffic for you. You can post to social media but it is Etsy that brings me the traffic and sales.

The way the shipping labels work was at first confusing to me too. I contacted them and after them explaining that they pay you the full amount of the sale including the shipping.
Once you make the label they deduct that amount and that shows up on your bill. I double check my bill each month and it is always correct.

If I renew I see that .20 charge or if I add a new item to my shop.

There is a fee also when the item sells just like on Ebay.

As long as I get the sales to make a profit I am happy with Etsy.

My goal is to sell off all that I have vintage and close that shop after that.

UGH. I feel this. The same thing happened to me with Facebook- for 2 years I successfully used Facebook and paypal for my business, once they changed their workings I suddenly dipped in orders. So I moved to Etsy. Same thing. I feel like it is so bloated with stores that it becomes impossible to stand out anymore.

I have moved to big cartel. You can list 5 listings for free or pay $9 a month for more (I can't remember how many). I get most of my business through heavy social media presence - mostly instagram. I am revamping my business so nothing is up or working yet, but I agree that this whole thing is frustrating! I will probably be starting my own website, working on a bi-weekly newsletter, and concentrating on my social media.

This discussion couldn't come at a better time, I have been thinking about setting up an Etsy account but now you all have me worried. What are my other site options without starting my own website which has me worried about making it secure enough not to be hacked.

Kem, they start @ $12 a month: http://snappages.com/. I've tried many web hosts over the years, and it's far by one of the easiest to use, and they always right get back to you if you have an issue.

Warning! Avoid weebly.com, one time many pages from my parts website vanished, and they were never able to recover them or help in any manner. In fact, they didn't seem concerned at all. Their customer service is terrible too. That's when I found snappages.

Connie I'm going to look into the snappages. Thank you for sharing this information. I will stay on Etsy but I want to branch out with my own website. I have a newsletter mailing list it's just a matter of learning how to utilize it and what content to share and how often. lol

I have learned how to get my items on the first page of search with Etsy. But, they control how much traffic comes to your shop. They are trying to spread it around so that new shops won't get frustrated and leave.

I did not realize people were having so many problems. I closed my Etsy shop several months ago. I guess it was before the changes took place. I do still have the card reader if someone does not have one. I saw it the other day. I took it to a craft show or two but people were using cash...So it has not been used. If some one wants it send me an email with your mailing info. Marilyn

What a great thread. I went right over and joined the team. When I have more time, I will scan the postings there.

I have been on Etsy since 2007. It is a hobby more than a source of income (which is good because I would be living in a box if it were my source of income.) I mainly use the money I earn to spoil my grandkids and honestly, it keeps me active.

Have a great day.

Thank you Marilyn for the donation of the card reader. I got one and put it somewhere before I had a cell phone. I'll have to dig mine out. If, no one else takes it and I can't find mine I'll send you an email.

Alexis I'm so glad you joined the team. I have been following along on the daily activities and it is turning my SM posts around already. I have renewed desire to work on my Etsy shops again.

If you ever need any help don't hesitate to ask. The Captain is a fellow farm girl friend. One of the leader's is also one of my close friends and she is very kind and helpful.

Feel free to send me a convo anytime you have a question about the team posts.
