Missy & I went to the coolest yarn shop in downtown Vancouver today. Oh my gosh is all I can say. She had every kind of yarn imaginable. I was telling her that at this point all I knit are dishcoths and asked her for a good cotton. The owner suggested linen yard to make facecloths. I felt one that had been knitted from the yard and then washed -- it was so soft. I've never heard of linen yarn before, am sure you expert knitters and fiber artists have. Anyway, I'm so excited! It was expensive but I think I can get 3 cloths out of what I bought. I'm having Missy and another gal over tonight to knit -- after potato soup and homemade bread. It's going to be so much fun!

I have been looking for linen yarn and can't find it!! Somewhere I have a pattern for special facecloths knit with it. I will have to email you and maybe see if on your next trip I can send you $$ to pick me up a couple skeins.
I sure wish I lived close enough to crash your little party tonight..sounds WONDERFUL!!!

Oh I wish I could join you tonight! That sounds like so much fun. What's your recipe for potato soup?
I haven't tried linen yarn, but have heard the same about how soft it is. Will have to give it a try!

I would love to find some linen yarn up my way--I'll ask when I visit my local yarn shop tomorrow...if I'm not snowed in soon*<:) What other items can you see being made out of linen yarn?

I asked at Heindselmans about 6 months ago and they didn't have ANY linen yarn..hmmm maybe I should check back there too.
I will sure look for that face cloth pattern gals and share it for sure.

The mason dixon knitting book has several patterns in it, one is for handtowels, that use linen yarn and I believe they got it from website that Kathy just posted.

I have a hank of Euroflax around here. I haven't done anything with it yet, but I keep thinking I'll make a "string bag" for marketing.

The linen yard turned into a nightmare! I've never had yard that came packaged like that. The lady at the yarn shop showed me how to unpackage it then lay over it a chair so that I could wind it into a ball. I did everything she said but as I started rolling the ball the yarn I was rolling from became a tangled mess. It looks like a linen bird's nest. Oh well! I'll just keep working at getting it untangled and hopefully will get to knit with it some time this century.
I looked at the louet site and they want $20.85 per skein. Mine is the same brand and I paid $16.50. I am more than happy to pick some up for anyone. Just let me know.

Here's the potato soup recipe. This is soooo good!! I'ts the stick to your ribs kind!!
6 slices of bacon cut into bits
3 pounds russet potatoes(I use red)
3 1/2 tsp salt
1 cup sour cream
1 stick butter
2 2/3 C whole milk
1/2 tsp black pepper
4 scallions thinly sliced
3/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Cook the bacon, cool and then cut unto pieces. Set aside.
Add 2 tsp salt to water. peel, cut and boil potatoes for @30min or until soft. Drain and return to pot. Slightly mash, but leave chunks as well. Add the sour cream and butter and stir until melted. Add the milk, pepper and remaining salt and bring the soup back to a simmer.
The recipe says to garnish with bacon, but I add mine with the milk and simmer it in the soup. I like that bacon flavor cooked in. Serve garnished with green onions and shredded cheese. Goes great with a nice green salad and sour dough wheat bread. Enjoy!!
