Each of us has a little spot in our homes where we get online and come here. I'm sure there are lots of variations on what that's like. What's your computer spot like? Where does your drink go? (Because we know you have one!) What's the view like from where you sit? Is it in a busy area, or a quiet one? Do you ever listen to TV, the radio, or anything else at the same time while you're online? And what's the closest living thing to you as you sit there?
Describe so we feel like we're in your chair! |

Alot of times I am at the office, in my cubical. The closest living thing there is my fish, and co-workers. At home I have a laptop, so I am all over the place. A lot of time I am in the recliner, while DH is watching TV. Sometimes I am sitting in bed, other times I am at my desk or the dining table. Usually at home my cat is sitting on me or my PC.

Mine is in the front of the house. It is supposed to be a small bedroom but I use it as an office, store room, etc.
It is a very basic, inexpensive computer table and there is a window I can look out of when I am at the computer. There is a paper shredder on the floor and two printers. OH, and a little table fan for the summer when I get hot flashes. Ha.
Blessed are those who love the soil,

Our computer is located in our living room (better to keep track of the kids online usage). As I sit in the chair and look above th computer I see a beautiful watercolor painted by local artist, Sally Snipes. It has three cows in a pasture and was a gift from my husband our first Christmas. If I look over my shoulder to my left, I have a large window with a view to the back yard and garden. There is nothing in the garden right now but leaves waiting for rain and tilling in. Over my right shoulder I get a view of the rest of the living room. The TV is over in that direction, so you can have TV and computer at the same time:( Behind me on the other side of the room is my daughter's desk where she is sitting doing her math work for the day (finding mean/averageS).Next to her is the doorway to the kitchen. At this moment she is the closest living thing to me, but that's just because the cat is not inside. If he were, he'd be up in my lap. He is fully convinced that we humans sit at the computer so we can have him with us!Dog is sleeping in his basketbed on the far side of the woodstove...just as God intended. This area can be very quite, like now with may daughter doing her work and not even music on, only the wood crackling in the stove. Other times it seems like Gran Central station! TV going, people in and out of the room, dog and cats playing around. We have a small home and this room is the heart of it! (Unless there is a party going on, then the kitchen is the heart of it all!) Oh, and there is no drink, but the kettle is on to boil:)

If I'm online at home, I'm in one of the extra bedrooms. I have my old kitchen farm table in there cuz it won't fit in my little kitchen (but someday....). I have a laptop now, but I'm using dsl until we get wifi (dream on) in our area. I keep my drink to my right and try to remember to keep it far enough away from the keyboard!! I've ruined 2 at previous jobs by spilling onto the keyboard. The closest living things are my dog laying on the bed and the cat who keeps trying to walk on the keyboard or sit on my shoulder. He thinks he's a parrot.

The former owner of our home used this spot as a bar area in the finished lower level family room. We are not party-people, so I opted to remove the cabinetry and make it into a computer nook. It's cozy, with my computer desk against the back wall and the bookshelf is on the right with all my "creative" and quiet reading books. It's dark cherry wood with cabinet storage on the bottom. The desk has a hutch on top with cubby spaces that hold address books, CD cases, etc. Across the top are more books, pictures of my pets, and a sign that reads - "A sometimes cranky, often confused person pays bills in this area. Approach with care." ;-D
I have my back to the room, which is fine because it offers a sense of privacy and a feeling that I am engaged in conversation when logged on to MJF. If I am doing homework or household accounting, it keeps me from being distracted.
For music, I typically will play something from my iTune collection, so it can be soft and soothing or loud and energizing!
The desktop sometimes gets cluttered with stacks of "to do" but it's a good feeling when I work through the stacks to see the desk once again.
I'd get a face lift - but then it wouldn't match my body! |

Mine computer is in the kitchen. It's handy because I can do the computer thing and a ton of other things in the kitchen at the same time. It's definitely not a computer niche, but it works great at this point. Music is a constant companion.

Mine is a laptop so it goes pretty much wherever I want it to. Presently it is on the dining room table and I have a glass of coke far far away from it where if it spilled it wouldn't hurt it. Beside it is my camera. We are planning on bringing our desktop Vaio up from Rob's room in the basement (I have a craft room, he has a, um, boy room...model airplanes and hsips and cars and such...OY.) and setting up a little station in our kitchen to be our household central type space.

My computer is a laptop and it's in a little secretary desk right inside the front door. It (the desk) is painted the same "tortilla" color as the walls, and has a chair painted the same - they are just darling I think - and they sort of disappear into the room because they're painted the same color as the walls, just a different finish.
I can open my front door - it's just about 3 feet away - and look right out onto our road - not much going on here ever, but I can tell if our animals get out and are headed to the highway, and I can see the two front gates - a very important things!
There is a lamp on the top center of the desk, along with a candle, and that's all, but the area does get overrun with papers occasionally. My drink goes right beside the computer - dangerous, I know, but it's either that or ABOVE the computer on the top of the desk - a little scary, too! I'm the one that uses the computer in the family, so it's a pretty personalized spot - easily "my" desk as opposed to "our" desk.
I DO love it. There's also a window up and to the North, right in front of me. The dog is the closest "live" thing to me right now, snoozing by the woodstove, but usually - no - ALWAYS when he's awake - one of my little ones are the closest thing to me.
I have my back to the rest of the household, so it's kind of a private place, too, which is nice when I'm "talking" to you all here!
XOXO, Libbie

My computer is on an old desk in the family room..which is the center of the house..and the busiest most used room. There is a window to the left..but you have to look through the garage through another window to see outdoors..a good weather checker but not very handy. My desk isn't very neat today..or most days..I have my mouse pad with a picture of my adorable granddaughter and my camera and the book I just finished and a little picture of my husband in a frame that says sweetie pie at the bottom..and a wooden window frame with little cute curtains at the sides right above the computer on the wall. My back is to the tv but I do tend to listen to either that or music while on the computer. Nearest living thing is the big split leave philodendron to the right on top of the little tall skinny cupboard next to the desk..where we store videos. I am the only one who really uses the computer...so in the bottom drawer there is red licorice..my favorite sweet treat.

This is so much fun to read about! So many cozy spots!
My computer is a laptop. I usually sit on the couch in the familyroom, across from the fireplace. There's a footstool for me there too; both are a soft brown leather. I have a little table beside me for my drinks. The table is black painted rustic wood, and finished on the top to be a checkerboard. We cut some corncobs into circles and play checkers on it with the grandsons sometimes. Other than that, there's a woven birdnest with wooden eggs in it on that table, and a primitive statue of a horse. And hubby's home laptop usually lives there when he's not home. He has a special one with a high resolution screen and lots of power because he uses it to read financial newspapers and trade stocks, and he does a lot of numbers crunching, and a different one for office homework. Not me; I just surf on my little IBM. On that table is also a coaster with a Warren Kimble painting of a house. I love his stuff.
The closest living thing is my dog. She's always right with me unless something prevents her from coming.
There's a window a few feet from me that looks out to the west. Through it from the couch I see my ancient lilac bush, so tall it goes over the top of the house, and a toolshed and cobshed, now used for storing lawn furniture and bikes. To the east is my kitchen, and I can see a window through it that shows the barn. I have to stand up to see the horses, though; but I can see a slice of the morning sky and tell if it's going to be sunny or not.
I pretty much stay on the couch to surf in the winter, but in the summer I like to go out on the deck in the evening. It's so pretty outside, with the gentle breezes and the sounds of the horses settling down for the evening. The last of the birds file into the trees with a few sharp calls to one another, and if you're quiet and observant, after dusk you then see a few bats gliding silently through the sky. |

My computer room is a small walk-in closet in my bedroom. Just a small computer table with a slide in drawer for the keyboard. there is a window to look out, shelves on the wall. I have an old mahogany desk that belonged to my father,(he died when I was very young) so it lets me think about him. A printer on a shelf on the wall. I fortunately don't have many clothes. What more does one need but jeans and a few shirts. So for me it's my perfect little niche. MB

I don't have a niche............in Army Housing you have to be creative! OUrs is on an vintage looking gardening bench. It has a glass back with a shelf and I have a small quilt hanging behind the glass. Have one of those wooden seperator thingys for stuff and two flat back willow baskets hanging beside it for bills and stuff to file. The printer and computer are on a shelf underneath and monitor on "top". It is in the great room

Absolutely ...for coffee, but how about pie? Anytime y'all are in Maine. It really would be so much fun. My computer room is a shared room with DH..his computer is on the other end of the room. My desk is an "L" shaped onewith the corner open. On the left arm of the "L" is my sewing maachine, with all of my sewing notions...ok, the most used ones in cabinet in the open corner. Bookshelves line the wall from floor to ceiling and filled with my own library. Filing cabinet behind me is hiding more sewing and crafting stuff. So I guess I've invaded hubby's office with girly stuff. We spend a lot of time in here in the evenings. I have a window behind my sewing machine that overlooks the garden and boy, am I daydreaming of planting. My little space is right off of the kitchen and kind of small, but very cozy and always relaxing. There is no t.v. in our house so I guess this would be the entertainment room...lol

Well, since we have a home based business, fortunately, I have an office. I have a filing cabinet and book shelf and some tupperware stackable shelves with the printer/scanner/copier on it. I have receipts and all kinds of work related stuff I wish I could just throw away. I have a thrift shop basket made especially to hold note cards and pens. My digital camera is at arms' length away at ALL times. I have a window to my left that I can see the neighbors cow pasture through the woods in the background, and can keep an eye on my horses right outside my window.
My drink closeby is just ice water. The closest living thing is one of my cats named Sydney. Today is stressing me...lunch time! Cristine |

We bought this house in August. The room where the computer is painted a brick red color and it has texture. The woodwork is all in white. The ceiling is cathedral and there is one window that has gold fabric curtains. There is a transom window over that so it is a bright room. It faces the street. The dog likes to curl up on the comfy chair that we have in front of the window. There are five bookshelves in here and one desk. They all have a maple color finish. There is nothing on the walls as my dh is too lazy to decorate in here and it's kind of his room, even though usually he is on his laptop in the livingroom and I'm the one who is in the office to use the computer. There are two doors, one to the hallway by the front door and one to the hallway for the bedrooms. The carpet is contractor beige, as my sister calls it.
My husband does like to listen to his music in here. He loves music and has many different things on itunes. I like to bring my coffee in here. Our chair for the desk is covered in brown suede and it's very comfortable. There is a ceiling fan in here.
We need wall decoration, a lamp, plants and we have got to organize the closet. I like the wall coloring, although I would never have chosen it, but it goes quite well with our desk & bookshelves and our green comfy chair. I can't figure out how to post a pic, so here is my blog: http://boinglink.blogspot.com/

I am both blessed and cursed, my computer office is in my fiber shop which is the main level of my four level log home. When I sit at my computer which I have had to face it to the north wall because otherwise I would get very little work done, but with just a slight twist of my office chair I can look out my two very large french doors that face west. Out there you can see my llama girls and goat young male winter pens. I have a large desk fashioned in an old spanish style with matching work table, sidebord and cabinets. These are placed in a working J style so everything (compter, printer, copier, files,Cash Register, etc.,) are within reach of my chair on wheels. There is one drawback - I am surrounded by all my yarns, fibers, books, tools and such which makes it very hard to want to keep my eyes on the computer. My shop is also filled also with antiques and items collected over many years that have to do with all my animals. Paperwork and Computers are not my best friends so I very often find myself floating to my passion FIBER! The other draw back is I have a wonderful full view of Pikes Peak from those french doors along with the massive snow covered pines gracing the ridge into the forest. I also catch an eye full of my five Pry puppies playing in the snow drifts as the bird feeder is very busy with hungry little tweeties trying to get their fill before the next storm. I have wonderful scented candles and incenses burning to fill my head with the newest creative idea while I am spinning away at the wheel. When I do force myself into the office chair late at night or early in the morning I can listen to a favorite movie on the dvd or turn on the music to rock out while tapping on the keys. Life is grand down at the Funny Farm -even when we are still are not plowed out and there is our 5th storm expected again on the weekend.
As I sit here typing the llama girls and trying to strech their legs before the sun will go down and the temp tonight will again be -20 degrees. The sun is shimmering along the peaks of the 7 foot snow drifts as my goat girls are walking in gingerly to come in for the evening eats. I soon will leave my shop and make that long commute from work to home (up one flight of stairs) to start dinner and after the dishes are done out comes the dye pots for a round of color magic. Tonight is Irish Linen yarn that will be made into something amazing for my customers. After that, it is up another small flight of stairs to my coral colored bedroom where I will rest my head on a pillow filled with herbs and flowers to dream those dreams that make living at the "Funny Farm" possible. Night all and sleep tight.

Mine is in our bedroom, which is also our office. Our bedroom is huge, which sounds great, but there was no place for an office, which we need with our home business, so it is now both, which means that the boys are constantly coming in wanting on the computer and there is a real lack of privacy. It works most of the time, but I would like to put a wall with french doors in, as there is plenty of room to do that. But we might move, so who knows. It works, but our bedroom gets junky from all the office stuff.

I'm sitting in our "school room/library" at an old green chipped & grungy primitive farm table. It's got a lovely wide pine top with plenty of room for my cup of coffee-just to my right on the table. The room is located upstairs in our house at the top of the stairs, so pretty centrally located-for kids safety while online. Right now it's quiet because it's late...but this is a pretty happenin' spot in the daytime. The walls in this room are rag painted with warm colors in various golds, oranges, and browns. To my right is the game closet & a bathroom. :) To my left, bookcases and in front of the window, a big round oak pedestal table, flanked by two wingback chairs. My fat little corgi dog is laying on her back in the chair closest to me. She is very spoiled and laying on a quilt my MIL gave me a few years back as a birthday gift! I enjoy coming up here in the wee hours to "chat" with all of you, when everything is still. I really enjoyed reading about all you niches and imagining you there! Blessings, Rhonda
