I would just like to say I will never, ever be critical of another's quilt again. I grew up next to this older lady who quilted all of the time, beautiful stitches, and from then on I always compared other quilts to hers. Well, I am now in the process of trying to piece my very first top and Ladies I had no idea the work involved just in getting a top pieces. So, from now, my hat is off to all quilters, I don't care if your quilting stitches are an inch long, just getting that top pieced is a work of art in and of itself.

What pattern are you doing Kathy?? I just love quilting. I love the whole process...every step of the way. I sure do admire those wonderful quilters who can do those teeny tiny stitches..mine are NOT like that..not an inch long either though. I even enjoy the planning part of it. I am in the middle of one now (peicing) and have a couple others to start when this one is done. I will be hand quilting the one I am working on now.

Hey Jenny
I am doing the Broken Dishes pattern. I love the old patchwork design. It's easy enough of a pattern, I guess I just didn't realize how time consuming it would be.

Hi Kathy,

I like to think of quilting as a time to "sit a spell" and gather your thoughts or chat with others while you quilt. I first learned to quilt by joining a quilt club that met once a month all day and everyone brought in lunch. It usually went from 10am to 3pm. I was the youngest as most of the ladies were 60-95 years of age. Anyway, they took me under their wings and taught me how to draw the patterns, cut them, piece, applique, put the top together, and hand quilt. I still do everything by hand. My stitches aren't perfect but they are small and I'm slow at quilting but faster than others. Just remember that quilting is not like sewing where you can start and finish a project in a day and you will become more relaxed in your quilting. I still love quilting and love to piece blocks better than applique them. I am working on four quilts right now and my goal is to have all four sandwiched by this fall and ready to quilt. (and I've been working on these four for several years and I want to finish these before starting another).
