Dear Farmgirl Sisters,
I am very excited to introduce myself to y'all! I have visited this site a few times in the past, but time constraints along with very slow dial-up internet service, have kept me from visiting as often as I'd like. I plan to remedy that in the future by making time to visit - to me it is a little "vacation" to spend time "visiting" with likeminded countrygirls, and countrygirlsatheart!
Our Honey Hill Homestead is 70 organic acres of hills, woods and hollers, with just a little bottomland along the creek, located in the eastern part of scenic Harrison County, Kentucky. Our country seat is the small town of Cynthiana. We are in the northcentral part of the state in the lovely bluegrass region about 35 miles north of Lexington.
Our farmhouse is 115 years old! We bought it 16 years ago after it had received extensive refurbishing. (A previous owner actually used it to house his pigs as it had no windows or doors back then!) We have done lots of work on the house and the land - but there is still more to do, guess there always is! We have also raised our 3 children here, and our 3 grandchildren spend lots of time here with use these days. They live on a farm, too, but they still love to come to Nana and Papaw's, and we LOVE to have them.
We homeschooled for 11 years with all of the kids graduating from homeschool high school. Farm life is so compatible with homeschooling which is really a lifestyle, not just an education choice.
We have laying hens - I especially love my Americauna hens with their gentle temperaments and their lovely blue eggs! We also raise Cornish cross broilers in the summer for our freezer, and to can. I garden - vegetables (especially heirloom tomatoes), herbs (medicinal and culinary) and flowers for fun!
I am very blessed to have been able to be a wife and Mom, and now grandma, all these years. We are rich in the important things in life - family, friends, love, laughter, good health, and lots of fresh country air! Life has often been extremely challenging, but our little farmstead keeps me grounded when things get tough. I can go out at midnight and REALLY see the stars in the heavens, and listen to the creek babble along, and know that God is always there for me, and life is truly worth the living!

So glad you found the forum, Cathy Jane. I too have dial up and hope to remedy that someday. right now it seems nothing else is available in our area. It sounds like you live in a little piece of heaven. Share with us any time you want. MB

Welcome Cathy Jane! So glad you decided to "vacation" with us! Isn't this just the BEST place to visit!?
Oh my, your farm sounds just lovely, I know the area you are in well...spent many vacations there in my early married years! We loved just driving the backroads, and fell in love with the miles of stone walls. So beautiful!
You are going to find so many country girls here to share with! Have fun & post often!

How excited I am to read all the entries made in just the past few hours! You girls are AWESOME!!! Thanks for all the warm welcomes. I suppose I do have an interesting life, and info to share on various topics of interest to farmgirls. Just takes someone else pointing that out to help me see it!
I visited the blogs listed - interesting stuff - like getting to know a new friend in just a few minutes!
My husband broke his leg, and then developed blood clots just before Christmas - got home from the hospital the day before Christmas Eve!He is at the hospital having some bloodwork done, and I am at our library using the FAST internet service - what a treat! Gonna check out some more chatting.

It is great to have another Ky farmgirl here. It was wonderful to hear that your farm is organic. I wish your husband a speedy recovery - for everyone's sake. :)

Hi from another Kentucky farmgirl, Cathy Jane! I relate to your story about your farmhouse having no windows and doors - mine didn't either - it sat in the middle of a pasture full of cows! And even though they couldn't wander in(doors too narrow, I guess - not to mention the steps!), all the weather from fifteen years or so managed to blow in. I understand the mess you faced. I know you're going to love this website as much as we all do. :)

Hello Cathy Jane. Love your name, guess it's because I have two aunts with the name Jane. And they are my favorite. Your place sounds lovely. Like I told the other Kathy from Kentucky, I will be there in about 3 months. Can't remember the place just know that I'm going. WOOHOO.... rode trip.
