DH and I took our first backpacking trip over the weekend. We camped at about 11,300 feet in Berthoud Pass, CO. We had a lot of fun, but boy did I appreciate the comforts of home after this experience! Just wanted to share and see if anyone had any fantastic backpacking tips they wanted to pass on. We hope to do this again, but will want to get our pack weight down as much as possible as the hike in was pretty difficult!
Here is our campsite:
And here is Bonita and Me on day two, mostly recovered from the hike in... but not completely lol:

DH's shadow looks a bit like Darth Vador, I didn't notice that until now - lol!

My hubby and I did lots of backpacking many years ago. After he started having knee problems we had to abandon that activity, just doing less strenuous day hikes since then. Yup, watching your pack weight is important! Hiking at that altitude with less oxygen IS difficult. We just were very careful about taking anything we really didn't need . . . even cut the handles shorter on our toothbrushes . . :D I would suggest taking Ace wraps if you can manage just to help with any strains you might get while hiking . . . an moleskin for blisters! Wishing you the best. CJ
