My daughter, Robin . . . aka "Birdie" (here on the forum) just returned from a week long glamping trip. Of course, my glamping doggie, Bramble, went with us too. We were at Cayton Campground which is a Forest Service campground at an elevation of 9300 feet, north of Rico, Colorado, just as you start climbing to the 10,000 foot summit of Lizard Head Pass. It is in the MOST STUNNINGLY BEAUTIFUL Colorado Rocky Mountains, San Juan Range.
At that elevation the nights and first thing in the morning are cool, even downright chilly. I'm thankful we aren't in such drought conditions this year that campfires are banned. That has been the case in a few previous years. So, yup, I was the fire builder person and built one every morning and every evening . . . for a total of FOURTEEN campfires.
The campground isn't real large, and has some very nice, roomy campsites many of which have electrical hookups. So, we took our little "Reiver's Rest" Glamper trailer, plugged it in and had mini-light strands strung all around to create nice night lighting.
We set up the EZ-Up canopy and decorated it with linens and lacy things and rugs. We decked out the trailer with lacy things and window boxes. We use vintage cloth tablecloths, napkins, REAL dishes, glassware, silverware . . . all kinds of things that make it girly, glampy and fun!
I will post some pics later . . . so you'll have to come back! And, I'll tell you some more tales of which there are many. . . so you'll have to come back. Thanks for letting me share! CJ |

Oh CJ isn't it always better with a campfire? The smell, just everything about it. So happy you gals had your time together and fun, I know how you look forward to it every year. Look forward to the pictures!

Here are a few pics;
Trailer setup with flower boxes, antique ironing board with lacy tablecloth and accessories. Robin's luggage . . . real suitcases.
Another view of the ironing board setup at the front. We have a fireplace screen on the other side and a ruffled curtain panel over the tool box and tongue to hide all that which isn't so pretty.
Canopy with linens, lacy things and rugs. Some vintage luggage pieces, chairs covered with shabby chic looking floral prints for a more "girlie" look.
I'll be back with more . . . . CJ

We headed up the highway, along the Dolores River, on Tuesday June 14th, but had to stop and wait about 1/2 hour for road construction. They were doing chipseal. After we were allowed through, on a two-lane highway with only one lane open and with pilot car guide, we passed the equipment doing the work. The one putting down the road tar had some overspray onto the lower front of my trailer . . bleh! So I have to figure out the best way to clean that off without damaging the paint.
We had pleasant weather for setting up, enjoyed supper and then, after the sun went down started our first fire. It got chilly that night! We were snuggled into all kinds of bedding and even wore socks to bed. The next morning there was a pretty hefty layer of frost on everything! Had a hard time getting the fire going but finally did and when the sun reached our site we were very glad to feel its warmth!
Our first day was spent putting finishing touches on our glampsite, resting and relaxing . . . we had spent two days packing, loading, grocery shopping, setting up, etc. and needed a day to kick back! It was a lovely day with warm sunshine . . . a bit breezy but the 2nd night was a wee bit warmer! CJ

Most of our days were spent with a leisurely breakfast and chatting a lot about whatever we wanted to. We took long walks some mornings and on Saturday and Monday we drove to a nearby trail and took hikes. Back for lunch and time to read, coloring in our coloring books, we played a lot of Scrabble and visited with our camping neighbors.
We took Bramble on her little "business trip" walks. Enjoyed the sound of the wind in the tops of the very tall blue spruce trees, the sound of the rushing river (still in snow melt run-off stage). We didn't see too much wildlife . . . my hubby says that the deer, elk or bears are not all the present at that altitude. We did however, see a marmot (aka rock chuck, or whistle pig) but they are more typically seen at higher altitudes. This one was near the mountain road and not terribly concerned about our presence, at least he didn't run off and hide quickly. CJ

Yes, Winnie, we are glad for no rain! The afternoon of our last day it did cloud up and we heard thunder, but we didn't get rain. We did pull out our tarps to have them at the ready. We tarped our cook/dining table, woodpile and table (under the EZ-UP) with luggage on it for the night. . . just in case. But the skies had cleared before we went to bed. SOOOOOOOO nice to not have to pack wet rugs, linens, etc. CJ

Heavenly, CJ! I just love your glamper, everything you've done with it, how you have your camp all set up, and the stories... Sounds absolutely heavenly! I am so happy that you and Robin had such a great time!
Frost...in JUNE! Whodathunkit?! I think we had a couple of days like that at the beginning of the month, or was it the end of May? Thankfully it didn't "stick" and evaporated fairly quickly - no damage to my garden! Yee hah!
Marmots are so cute... Are they like groundhogs?

Two buntings I made from doilies, quilt binding and ribbon
A little embroidered "glamper" trailer banner I stitched to hang wherever we thought it worked
The view from our "sitting room" under the canopy
Our "glamper" cookie jar and salt/pepper shaker sets. We didn't have cookies in the jar, it was very handy for other little items. I tied a vintage doily on the knob handle on top to "dress" it up a bit.
Don't forget to check back for more tales and more pics! Thanks for joining us on our adventure! CJ

Every year I look forward to your glamping adventures. Makes me feel like I am right there with you. Love everything you come with. Looking forward to more. I now live in an RV in Florida and love it. It is like glamping everyday!!!! I know it is not the same, but we have no way of hauling our 5th wheel anywhere, so it is parked in an RV park and we live in it. We have a big double lot and a lot of privacy and places to garden and cook out. The only thing we cannot do here is have a campfire. A county code.

This looks fantastic CJ! What a cute glampsite you had set up! We just got back from our first backpacking trip... in comparison this looks like the Ritz for sure. :) Thanks for sharing your beautiful site!

Robin enjoying that Colorado Rocky Mountain high sunshine!
Water carafe with doily cover . . . another glamping accessory
Robin was the cook and she did a SUPERB job . . . fed me very well!
When Bramble needed a cool spot, she was under the table in the canopy
I STILL have a few more pics to share so don't forget to come back for those! This was a wonderful WEEK of living outside! CJ

oh, I forgot to mention,,, I use to attach little colorful beads onto dollies to use as covers over the old ice tea pitcher... I will have to see if I can find one... but they are easy to make, just attach/stitch a bead to scalloped edge,,, some dollies (depending on size) have 8-10 scalloped edges...

Girls, it is such fun to ""glamp" with you. Your set-up is great with everything so pretty! Keep those pictures coming. We didn't gliamp but our son from Texas had a short layover in Minneapolis before his flight to Europe. We spent four hours in Fort Snelling state park close to the airport. A gorgeous wooded spot by the Mississippi River. Lots of wildlife and birds.

Injured my toe on a metal milk crate. Robin, my "nurse", doctored me up with gauze, Bag Balm and glamper trailer duct tape! Was much more camping durable than a bandaid. (Pretty significant gouge on the bottom of my toe AND a blood blister) UGH! CJ
